Arrived here on the ferry from Macau, this hotel was ideal, situated a short walk from the ferry terminal. I stayed for one evening while on business, room was clean, functional, not too small, great shower, less expensive than one of the budget chains that I stayed in at close proximity a few days later. Would highly recommend this for the price.

Room Tip: Stayed on relatively high floor, I should imagine due to traffic noise, higher is probably better (similar to most of HK)

The hotel is known to be one of the best (cheapest) places you can book that is super close to central and sheung wan station. Very clean bathrooms and beds. Plus! Staff is uber friendly. There are a lot of shopping stalls nearby and coffee shops as well. It's right across the ferry terminal and the area is quite silent.

I've lost count of the number of times I have stayed here, maybe 8 or 9 now. I come here because the rooms are of a generous size, by Hong Kong standards. It is Central for transport- trams, MTR, HK Express.
Complimentary light refreshments are provided every morning & late afternoon. Free English language newspapers are delivered to your room everyday. There is an in room fridge and access to laundry & gym.
I have to say, on this visit they gave me a smaller room than I have had before, the room was a little dull, the carpet filithy & the air con efficient but very noisy.
I think it is time this great little hotel had a makeover. New room carpets & some bright cheery pictures on the wall would be nice- along with more modern air con.
Maybe I just got a worse room than usual. I would still stay here, as the advantages remain good. However, the prices have edged up over the years without improvements to the rooms or the reception area- which is equally a bit dull.

LOCATION: The BAUHINIA Hotel - Central is conveniently situated @ 119-121 Connaught Road on Hong Kong island, a quick 2-minute walk from Sheung Wan MTR Station. It is 1 stop away from Central Station where there are regular connections to Kwun Tong, Tung Chung, Tsuen Wan & Island MTR Lines.

Sheung Wan Station is the terminal for Island Line which brings you to Central & Admiralty where major banks, corporate offices & swanky boutiques are located; it also travels to Causeway Bay, a busy shopping area with many mega-malls.

The HK-Macau Ferry Terminal (located within Shun Tak Centre) can be reached on foot in under 10 minutes via Exit D of Sheung Wan Station whereas the Star Ferry Piers (for travel to Lamma, Lantau & other outlying islands) are easily accessible from Central Station.

DIRECTIONS: Take the Airport Express to Central Station, transfer to Island Line & alight @ Sheung Wan Station. Hotel entrance is not visible nor accessible from Connaught Road. Upon leaving Sheung Wan Station via Exit B, walk towards the Left, past 1 block & turn Left into Man Wa Lane; hotel entrance is on your Left.

ROOM: We stayed in a compact but well-appointed Superior Room at far end of corridor on the 2nd floor. Although our windows looked out onto a busy street, we were not bothered by traffic noise. The room was generally clean & tidy despite having unsightly stains on the carpet.

The air-conditioned room was simply furnished with the following: twin beds with side table & adjustable reading lamps; flat-screen TV with multilingual channels; work desk with chair by the window; a low table which could serve as extra luggage rack; wardrobe; minibar stocked with canned drinks & chocolate bars; electric kettle & complimentary bottled water.

The small wardrobe contained hangers; extra pillows; iron & ironing board; foldable luggage rack; torchlight; and a safe-deposit box.

BEDS: comfortable with clean sheets, blanket & pillows; bed linens are only changed upon request.

BATHROOM: clean & well-lit. Furnished with small vanity counter with wash basin & mirror; toilet & separate shower stall. Shower-head had adequate water pressure & steady supply of hot water.

Clean towels were provided & replenished daily. Amenities provided were comprehensive: shower gel & body lotion; shampoo & conditioner; shower cap; hairdryer; comb; toothbrush; shaver; cotton buds; toilet rolls; hand soap; mini sewing kit; etc.

Partially concealed under the non-slip mats in the shower stall were several bare patches where the floor tiles had come off; quite an eye sore & potential safety hazard. Far more serious was the drainage problem in shower stall but after notifying Front Desk, a maintenance staff promptly came over & rectified it within 15 minutes.

F&B: Room rate was inclusive of daily (self-service) breakfast, available @ the Guest Lounge on 4th floor. The unpalatable breakfast had a limited offering of bread rolls, cupcakes, yoghurt, fruit juices, coffee & tea.

There's a Starbucks near the Hotel as well as several local cafés & restaurants in the vicinity. If all you need is a quick bite, there are small bakeries, sandwich kiosks & 7-Eleven convenience stores at most MTR Stations.

SERVICE: The frontline staff @ BAUHINIA Hotel - Central weren't exactly genial but were nonetheless competent & responsive; most can converse in English, Mandarin & Cantonese.

Advisable to make Online Reservation via hotel booking sites as we found much lower rates on Booking.com than rack rates listed for the same room category.

FACILITIES: Hotel has a Meeting Room, Fitness Centre & Laundry Room on the 4th floor. There is Free WiFi and also printing & photocopying services available.

In SUMMARY: Hotel accommodation in HK is rather expensive & room size is usually small. BAUHINIA Hotel - Central is a good choice for both business & leisure travellers as it offers quiet & well-appointed rooms in a convenient location and room rates are reasonable by HK standards.

I lived in HK before visiting the city again as a tourist, and tried to find optiaml place to live for 4-5 days. Bauhinia is the best choice in terms of price/location/service/room facilities.
You can walk, it is basically based in the centre, very close to metro (MTR). The rooms are very clean and nice. And there is no noise even if it is close to big road.
