We accidentally come across this place in late evening. It was great to see this place with the old buildings. We bump into an artist there and have looked at his, bronze work. I loved it. I really wish the government will do more and bring more artists to this place.

Close by there is the cattle depot park.

An oasis of calm and serenity.

Nearby there are old buildings.

Worth a visit from my perspective.

Absolute waste of time! Took an hour to get there and what a huge disappointment. The only art is an old damaged faded installation and broken sculptures in neglected alleyways between buildings. It appears to be almost abandoned, with closed doors and a couple of old storage rooms and workshops. No art for sale anywhere. One gallery is valiantly trying to show paintings but the rest is dirty, overgrown and generally in poor condition. Don’t bother.

If only someone would renovate it and get professional artists there, it would be a tourist attraction.

Unfortunately, it’s in the wrong area.

Do not waste your time.

The old Cattle depot is a wonderful building in itself, but with little to no art to speak of it was rather a let down.
Maybe at specific times of the year there is more see and do there?!

Came by bus from Tsim Sha Tsui and walk along the Ma Tau Kok Road. Enjoyed photo-taking here.

Cattle Depot Artist Village
It comprises red-brick buildings with Chinese tiled roofs. Since its construction in 1908, it was a public slaughterhouse and quarantine depot for almost a century. It is the only pre-war cattle slaughterhouse that still exists in Hong Kong. The ex-animal depot was converted into an artist village, “Cattle Depot Artist Village” (CDAV). East of the CDAV is the Ma Tau Kok Gas Plant, which was built in the 1930s.

13 Streets
Opposite to Cattle Depot Artist Village, the old buildings, built in the 1950s and 1960s, are under 10 storeys due to the aviation skyline height control (near the Kai Tak Airport).
