Perak Hotel is a clean and cosy little thing, located within walking distance to Arab Street, Bugis Street as well as the MRTs. There's a Briyani place just next door and another one across the street, and more dotted along the streets nearby, so, rest assured you will not die of hunger anywhere around here. CONS: When we arrived, there was a group of Westerners at the reception. They were treated to welcome drinks of orange juice. Me and my friend got none (we're Malaysians). Is this racism, or did they coincidentally ran out of juice at that time, I don't know. But the feeling was not good. The day before we were supposed to arrive in Singapore, I called Perak Hotel to confirm whether they provide towels and toilettries. YES, the guy on the phone said, BUT PLS BRING YOUR TOOTHPASTE. WE PROVIDE TOOTHBRUSH BUT NOT TOOTHPASTE. I only realized that they did not provide the toothbrushes at 2 am that night, after spending a few hours catching up with my Singaporean friend at Kg. Glam Cafe. So I called the reception and was told that actually, they DON'T provide toothbrushes, ever, but there's a 24-hour convenience store just around the corner where I can get one. Talk about going the extra mile. Thankfully we only stayed there 2 nights, and the only times we had to interact with the aloof staff were when we had to hand in our keys before going out.

Room Tip: Shop around before you decide on a hotel

We stayed at this hotel for one night on a stopover in Singapore. This hotel was smack bang in the middle of little India. This is a pretty good location, and is easy to get around from there. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, the room was fine, nothing special, but perfectly suitable and clean. The rooms are a little on the small side, but great value for money.

Perak was an oasis. The staff were very helpful from when we arrived on an early flight and needed to check-in early to arranging our departure. The rooms were clean, had air con and the bed was comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble. Reasonable rates for good service.

Room Tip: rooms towards the front

The hotel is in Little India quarter, only 5 minutes from the subway. The staff is very nice. The breakfast is basic but ok. The rooms are small, it is an ex shophouse, but perfect for a short stay.
