Clean hotel centrally located in Singapore's Chinatown

Review of Hotel Mono
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 21 Jun 2019
This hotel is very centrally-located right in Singapore's Chinatown, less than one block from the Chinatown MRT station. My room was small, but quiet and clean. The front desk staff was super helpful with recommendations and directions. Chinatown Food Street is just two or three blocks away. Maxwell Food Court is about a 7-minute walk. There are lots of interesting sights within walking distance, including Chinatown, and the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple & Museum (yup, they've got one of Buddha's teeth there). Super easy to get from hotel to pretty much anywhere else in Singapore, due to clean, efficient MRT system (with maps and announcements in English).

Room Tip: The rooms are small, quiet and clean. For the single rooms, a glass wall separates the room from...

Had a 19hr layover and decided to spend a night in a hotel. Used the MRT to get to Chinatown- takes 50 min but is easy and cheap to use.
The hotel has a stylish design and is also kept very clean. I booked a large single room; bed was a very comfortable King Single, and the room was relatively spacious for one person. The Free WiFi was was fast and worked well, the room was well air conditioned too. Toiletries were provided (Razer, shaving foam, toothpaste & paste, body wash & shampoo) as well as slippers and a hairdryer. Plug sockets were universal adapter type which was very helpful. Tea / coffee making facilities are provided as well as a fridge and a safe. The hotel provided free bottle water too which was great.
The service was excellent and very helpful throughout my short stay.
The location in the heart of Chinatown was perfect- a short undercover walk to the MRT station, hundreds of restaurants and bars right at the door of the hotel. Although the area is very busy, my room was a courtyard facing one and was very quiet.
I would definitely stay here again.

This hotel is a concrete industrial block with no welcoming features at all. The good points are that it is centrally located in Chinatown, the staff are friendly and helpful the bed is comfortable and it is clean. The room does have a tiny fridge and they provide 2 bottles of water daily. Anything else leaves much to be desired. It is by far the noisiest hotel we have ever stayed in. Garbage trucks clanging at 3am outside the closed window most nights. You could hear every conversation in the street and in the hotel and every door that opened or closed on our floor and every wprd of the conversations of other guests as they came and went at all hours. We could even hear someone using the toilet upstairs. There is not a single painting, floor mat, cushion or comfy chair in the whole place. There are not top sheets. The air conditioner which needs to be on blasts straight on you when you are in bed. There are no breakfast facilities and it is almost impossible to find any kind of fruit or breakfast food anywhere around. We ended up at McDonalds on day and it was the best that was around unless you want asian food for breakfast. We love Asian food but wanted something plainer for breakfast. There is no mini bar or room service. There was only 1 thing that I hesitate to call a chair in the room. It was a square laminate hard thing with a metal bar about 15cm high running across one side. I defy anyone to sit on that to read for more than a few minutes. Comfort level in this place Zero. There was no wardrobe or cupboard, spare pillows or iron. There were 6 coat hangers and a hair dryer hanging on a bar. There is a valuables safe. There is no hotel parking but taxis can pull up out front.

The fire alarm went off one night and we got a continuous message that "Our smoke alarm has been activated and we are checking the situation. Please stand by for further instructions" This repeated non stop for about 10 minutes, then just stopped. There was no follow up message to give the all clear. Normal procedure is to evacuate while the problems is checked out and then give the all clear once it has been sorted......apparently not at Mono.

Room tip: I doubt there are any quiet rooms

The worst and dirtiest hotel staying experience in my 32 years lifetime.
All photos posted at agoda.com are FAKE! Those photos are showing the building as a stylish boutique hotel with black n white unique design. The truth is: very dirty and smelly room, with bugs and ants on bed sheets, headboard, ceiling, bathroom, doorway, desk and everywhere in the room. Many dust and hairs on desk, shelf, safe box, and everywhere. The door is broken but there isnt any maintenance.
We have booked the room for 3 nights and we have complained to the front desk staff at reception after the bad experience at first night. When we came back to the room on second day, there is no improvement and when we complaint again, the receptionst just said she would talk to the housekeeping but didnt show any assistant to clean up the room for us immediately. And then we hv to clean up the room by ourselves after a long day out!!!
Agoda please review this hotel and update the booking system with true photos!

Love the way they design the place.
Good location.
Small room.
Helpful receptionists.
The hotel located near exit A of Mrt chinatown. There is some bar and restaurant near by. The famous Song Fa Bak Kut Teh and Liao Fan Hawker Chan is 5 mins walk.

Room is small (with small window) as expected but clean and adequate. Good to use as base to explore the city.
