This is such a fun museum to go to!!
Their thing is that you can try out pretty much ALL the scientific stuff and discover how everything works.
You can do it by yourself or ask for the staff to help/show you.

I spent almost 2 hours, but hey... I said I love this kind of stuff!!

My first impression was this is a very depressing place. You can see its good years are long gone. Still, all 3 kids in our group had a blast and the guides are very engaging and nice. They are commited to their job and wouldn't even accept a tip.

The Museo de Ciencia y Tecnologia has an Astronomy Hall, in partnership with ESO (European Organisation for Astronomical Research in the Southern Hemisphere), where we get most of our amazing space pictures from.

Many people don't realize that Chile is home to some of the best space research telescopes in the world and it has a display at the Museo de Ciencia y Tecnologia. We may not of been able to visit a high altitude space telescope while we were in Chile but we certainly able to visit here.

Although we don't speak any Spanish we found a very intelligent guide there who not only knew a lot about science he also spoke fluent English and I think Dutch as well.

Our kids really enjoyed the hands-on displays and the diagrams of different scientific processes. The other children that were there were just as interested in the different displays. The diagram of plant classifications was illustrated with real plants! It was fascinating to see the pictures of the damage sustained by the museum in the last big earthquake... the unrepaired area outside the building is more understandable when this is taken into account.

This museum is one of the several attractions located at the Parque Quinta Normal. From the city center, one can take the Metro to the Quinta Normal Metro Station to visit it plus the other attractions near by. You can spend the entire day visiting all the FREE attractions and those that have minimum entrance fees here.

For less than 1 US $, one can enter this museum. Visitors, particularly children have fun using the big "walkie/talkie or phones" located near the entrance of the museum. Exhibits include solar systems, interactive games, old equipment, art works, etc. I saw kids having fun using the interactive games.

Be sure to include this museum when you visit the Parque Quinta Normal and enjoy all the Parque's attractions plus those located near it.
