“Great Value and Staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 April 2012

This is one of the best places to stay when you're on a budget in Ecuador. Clean, hot water, great breakfast, and wonderful staff. The place is a 5 minute walk from Plaza Foch and a ton of great restaurants.

We really loved chatting with Miguel, who has a great sense of humour. The place really feels like a home away from home.

Room Tip: Ask for room 5! When we were there it had a double and a single bed, a table, a bench, a small clos...

My wife and I stayed here in March 2012. I arrived with a stomach virus(?) and everyone was very helpful in trying to resolve my problem. Although I ignored everyone and was better after a day or so, the concern shown was very comforting.
Miguel was tolerant in allowing us to speak with him in Spanish, which we enjoyed. He was also very receptive to suggestions - more lights in the room for reading. This is not a luxury hotel, but so what? The breakfasts were good, the owner and staff friendly and helpful, and everyone willing to provide information as needed. Miguel even let me print out our boarding passes for our departure flight.
As other reviews have mentioned, plenty of hot water, good wifi, and quiet (except for the door bell ringing in middle of night - my wife reminds me). They could use more of a comfortable common area for guests to meet and mingle. As Miguel explained to me, the hotel is fairly new, I think 3 years, and is a work in progress. He is receptive to suggestions to make this hotel better.
In addition, the hotel uses the services of a taxi/tour guide, Patricio, who was very reliable and who we used 2 days for tours around Quito and then to Otavalo area, and who also picked us up and took us to the airport. Maybe a little more expensive than others, but very reliable, friendly, and lots of good stories, especially if you speak Spanish.
Overall, a positive experience and would recommend Hotel Andino to all.

This a cute little boutique hotel in the best part of the Mariscal District. Miguel(the owner) speaks English, but the night person, Cecelia, does not. It is near the best restaurants in Quito (La Pavarotti, Mare Nostrum; for example). The Swisshotel and the Radisson are in walking distance. The facilities are very basic but charming. The rooms are small, but adequate for short stays. They are very clean. Hot water in the shower, but not in the sink. No phone in rooms, but very good Wi-Fi. No heat, but it is not really needed in Quito, just wear a sweater or jacket.

There is no restaurant, but they serve one of the best breakfasts. The breakfast consisted of processed fresh blackberry juice and jelly, croissant and butter, coffee, fruit, eggs and ham(if requested). The best part is the price: $25 for a single, $35 for a double. Airport pickup is available for $10.00. I would recommend this hotel for short stays, especially overnighters because it is sorta near the airport and in a very safe area of Quito. Don't miss walking to Plaza Quinde(also called Plaza Foch, at Foch and Reina Victoria); there must be 15 restaurants, many shops, night clubs, and lots of police.

OK, this is not a 5 star hotel by US standards, but for the price it definitely is! Fantastic service, decent breakfast, clean rooms, hot water, even hi speed 'Net! What more do you want? In a nice part of town near the embassies. Minor qibbles are bed sizes (too short), no A/C (but not really needed), very few outlets, no chairs, a little noise from other rooms.

When we arrived at the Hotel in mid-January, I thought we had made a mistake booking five nights in what looked like a residential neighborhood, far from the Old Town. How wrong we were. The staff was very courteous and attentive. After five weeks in Peru and Ecuador, the first thing we noticed was the breakfast was superb, compared to every other hotel.

The juices varied daily, from exotic fruits, I can't pronounce or have even heard of before. The eggs were also served in a different, tasty fashion, which were cooked to order. Miguel went out of his way to direct us to a neighborhood just a short walk away that was truly a tourist "must see"; restaurants serving any style of food you'd ever want. The out restaurants, bars and nightclubs were perfect. We had grown rather weary of the chicken and rice dishes, served everywhere, for every meal throughout both countries.

The SwissHotel, just up the street is an expensive 5 star, which costs as much for one night as Andino costs for one night. It turns out that Iran's Achmedenijad was staying there one night, during our stay.

The Old Town is a short cab ride, but to be honest, we weren't impressed. Churches charging admission for tourists is very strange. Having toured the Vatican for free, paying to see a church in Quito seemed a real let down. Miguel did caution us about walking anywhere in Quito after dark. Our neighborhood seemed secure enough to return even after sunset.

Room Tip: We would have preferred a ground floor due to our age, but this hotel seems to do a brisk business...
