My wife & I stayed at La Casona de la Ronda 3 nights, Nov 22 to Nov 25, 2017, as part of our 20th wedding anniversary vacation. When we arrived to check in, a bit up the street and around the corner from the hotel due to a street closure, we were met by 2 members of the hotel staff who carried our bags and guided us to the hotel. The staff who met us were friendly, efficient and serviceful. The pictures of the hotel we had seen before our arrival exactly matched what we saw when we arrived. The reception staff greeted us warmly as well as offered us a beverage on arrival. We enjoyed the inside courtyard feel and light of the hotel as well as the extraordinary mural work around the hotel.

We stayed in a double room with a french balcony over the entrance to the hotel and looking out toward the Virgin of Quito statue on the hill which was lovely to see both in the morning and all lit up in the evening. The room was quiet. Being above the entrance door to the hotel was no issue whatsoever.

The bedroom and the bathroom were spacious and comfortable. The bathroom amenities were good quality and had anything a traveler might expect (shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, cotton ear buds, shower cap, soap, hairdryer, etc). There was a laundry string in the shower as well as multiple hooks and towel racks in the bathroom.

We were appreciative of the hotel's efforts to reduce single-use plastic bottle consumption by providing a glass water pitcher as well as 2 glasses to fill filtered water from a water station in the hallway near the room. A special treat was coming back to our room in the evening to find small, Ecuadorian chocolates on the bed for us. On the night of the big Quito celebrations when we returned to the room, we had ear plugs provided, which was well thought through.

The location of the hotel was ideal for walking to the major attractions in Quito as well as being located in a hip part of the city offering an array of restaurants, artist's studios, and shops. During the Quito celebrations we were able to watch the locals go by as well as bands and dance groups from our little balcony, which we enjoyed.

The hotel's breakfast buffet was full of a variety of fruits, cereals, juices, breads, hot and cold dishes, as well as an omelet station. The coffee was excellent. The service was always given with a smile.

We also enjoyed 2 dinners in the hotel restaurant, which were excellent. We ate the best empanadas at Casa de la Rhonda that we had in all of Ecuador, as well as some of the best Ecuadorian desserts.

The hotel had afternoon tea and cookies available in the lounge area which was very much appreciated after returning from a full day sightseeing.

The top reason I recommend staying at the Casa de la Rhonda is the staff. They were very attentive to every detail and went out of their way to make sure we were well cared for. One morning at 6 AM my wife woke up with a headache, so I went down to the reception area to see about getting her a cup of coffee. Although there was no coffee set out yet, the reception staff went into the kitchen and made her a cup of coffee, which she said was the best cup of coffee she had in all of Ecuador. When we were admiring the huge indoor living wall, I wondered aloud how they managed to water it. One of the staff came over and showed us how it worked. We had made arrangements to go to the Teatro Sucre for dinner on the night in which it had started to rain. When we arrived downstairs to meet the car, the staff was ready with 2 umbrellas and escorted us to our car while holding the umbrellas as well as met us when we returned to the hotel in the evening. It is small touches like these that make a place worth staying in.

The next time we are in Quito, we will be returning to stay at the Casa de la Rhonda.

From the hustle and bustle of La Ronda you wouldn’t expect there to be a smashing boutique hotel right in the heart of it.

As soon as you enter you are charmed by the visible Ecuadorian colonial history across the hotels three floors, adorned with plants and dimly lit keeping with the feel of the hotel.

Our room was two twins that could easily be used as double beds and a big bathroom. Staff were very friendly and the hotel also offers free coffee and biscuits from 4pm until 7.

The only downside was that our room (3) backs onto the main street which is where it all happens in the evening. No problems with getting to sleep as they have double glazing and wooden shutters but it’s difficult to block out the noise completely.

Would definitely recommend staying here as it’s on the more affordable side of the best hotels in Quito.

We stayed here for two nights on our way to Coca. It was our honeymoon so we were hoping for something special, and we were not disappointed. We had been travelling on Brazil and Peru before and were in need of a rest. This was the perfect place to have one. Situated in a beautiful cobbled pedestrianised street, the hotel is impressive when you walk in and see its lovely courtyard. It’s very good value, clean, lovely bathrooms/shower facilities and nice products. The staff are exceptional, and so kind and helpful, and carried our bags everywhere without us asking. The owner truly makes you feel welcome and we were hugging by the second day. The food is fantastic, menu is perfect, and the chef really knows his flavours. Breakfast very good too and in a lovely dining room. Enjoying a delicious cheese board, a bottle of red wine, and backgammon by a log burner fire, on comfy sofas in the living room, must be a highlight, we felt as if we were at home. So comfortable. Also when our flight to Coca was cancelled they welcomed us back with open arms. It really is what it says it is, a fabulous, welcoming stay. We couldn’t recommend it highly enough!

We stayed here for the last 2 nights of our honeymoon and could not have hoped for a nicer place to stay. Location is fantastic, hotel is beautiful and the staff are excellent. We had dinner in the restaurant on the first night and the meal was lovely for a very reasonable price. On checking in, the staff member copying my passport spotted that it was my birthday the following day. Without any further mention, I was amazed when we got back to the hotel the following afternoon to have a knock at the door with the waiters delivering an amazing chocolate dessert from the restaurant with a candle as a birthday cake, with 2 spoons so I could share it with my husband. Such a lovely personal touch and was very much appreciated. If we go back to Quito, I wouldn't even bother looking at hotels - it would have to be La Casona de la Ronda again without doubt!!!

From the moment I arrived until the reluctant walk out the door after three nights at La Casona, the staff were fantastic. The room was gorgeous and although there was a bit of music on the street, overall very quiet. The restaurant is fantastic. The beds super comfortable (and large enough for four people!). The bathroom was modern and met my personal "shelf-space" requirements. The views up the hill were beautiful in the early morning. And location, location, location. The tea at 4 pm was also great for those of us who are fans of cookies....
