“Smallest sushi place ever?!”
Review of Shibumi Sushi Bar

Shibumi Sushi Bar
Ranked #5 of 1,784 Restaurants in Quito
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: US$5 - US$30
Cuisines: Sushi
Description: Shibumi is a pioneer in Ecuadorian dining that introduces local and seasonal ingredients found nowhere else in the world, while reinventing the most classic forms of Japanese cuisine. The menu changes daily based on the market's finds, and the beer selection rotates weekly to highlight our latest discoveries. We base our experiments on the most demanding foundation of technique, quality, and simplicity, using Japanese traditions as a primary point of reference. The process of sushi allows us to combine flavors in inventive ways. The philosophy of omakase, which invites guests to eat the Chef's selections, allows our patrons to join us on a new level of experience, as both participants in discovery and fellow seekers of excellence. We hope you choose to make this a destination on your next visit to Quito.

Fantastic quality sushi in an intimate setting. The food was top notch, all fresh, sashimi melts in the mouth, interesting touches such as raspberry or coffee on the nigiri and in the rolls. The restaurant is super cosy - two 6 people tables and 4-6 stools at the bar where you can watch the chef in action. Service was warm and efficient, descriptions were given for all of the items on the chef's choice set menu. Went as a group, averaged $40 for the set menu, bottled water and 2 bottles of good quality red wine (service not included). Cannot wait to go here again!

The chef really comprehends and knows legitimate Japanese cuisine when it comes to handling and serving sushi. Was impressed by the quality of all the fresh sashimi. Their tuna literally melts in your mouth! Highly recommend this place if you are tired of "westernized sushi" and want a taste of a real Japanese experience in Quito. Also recommend their ginger lemonade, OISHI-NE!

This place has grown since the last time I was there two years ago. The sushi here is phenomenal and the owner is very friendly and personable. Make sure you get a reservation now, it's not the quaint walk in place it used to be. It feels much more upscale. The prices are pretty much U.S. sushi prices, but well worth it. Ask for the wasabi oil and only use a single drop per sushi piece. It's potent!

I had no intention of trying this place but am so glad we did! The chef is fantastic and his passion and dedication comes through in all of his food. Best sushi I can recall having anywhere in Latin America, I went 2 times in my 5 days there.

Had dinner there. Relatively small sushi bar (reminded me with those in Tokyo). This allowed the chef to focus on his excellent creations! Just let him decide what to offer you! You will be pleasantly surprised. On the expensive side but excellent value for money!
