For $170 + dollars a night you expect more than just a bed and breakfast and tiny room and bathroom.

Issues:
Some rooms a tiny (and you still pay full price)
Some bathrooms are smaller than airport toilet stalls and feel old
The common areas feel cramps
The wireless internet does not work in all rooms
Everything from TV, bathrooms and lighting could use an update
Feels more like a B&B then a hotel

Positive:
Staff is very friendly and helpful
Location is great for sightseeing in the historic center
The place is very quiet, clean and peaceful
Decoration is atmospheric

It would get more stars if the price would be 30 percent lower but currently it is very overpriced.

It's got just the right amount of old charm, mixed in with great service and only a few blocks from Plaza Grande which is in the heart of Old Town. We were really happy we picked this hotel and would not hesitate to recommend it. Considering it's central location, the price was really good!

We stayed at this hotel for one night on Nov 1, 2013. The room was small but comfortable and immaculate. The service provided by the hotel staff was over the top outstanding. We arrived late in the afternoon and asked if they could arrange for a taxi the next morning at 4:30 AM to make an early flight to the USA. That was just the beginning. They prepared an excellent dinner for just the two of us. At 4:15 AM our bags were picked up by hotel staff apparently brought in only to help us. We were given juice, coffee, bananas and bread. The front desk was staffed for us and she called for another cab after the first was a no show.
Travel to another country can be daunting, but these fine folks provided us with exceptional service and made sure that our travel plans were not disturbed.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms are a bit larger. There is no elevator.

We stayed at Hotel Relicario del Carmen for 3 nights this month and loved it. It's an incredibly quiet and safe hotel in the middle of Quito's old town, and just a 5 minute walk from the basilica at the top of Calle Venezuela.

The rooms are small but comfortable. The bathrooms are very small! The hotel is the former home of one of Ecuadors presidents and it's beautifully decorated and has tons of character. The staff are lovely and were very willing to provide information about Quito and some of its artists - (thank you Eduardo!). We paid a little more to stay here than we have during the rest of our trip, but it was well worth it. Thoroughly recommend.

This is our third stay here as we venture out to different parts of Ecuador. It has been a perfect little oasis for us. The attention to detail and the fastidious cleanliness are all done imperceptibly. Tis hotel is a perfect base to explore Old Town Quito and makes a phenomenally quiet escape when the day is done. The staff here is lovely. they have met our every need and we have challenged them with a few. If you appreciate a smaller inn with attention to detail this is the perfect place.
