Beautiful and cozy city center. Plaza des Armas is charming. But also other districts. Do not forget to visit San Blas.

If you travel to or through Cusco (on your way to Machu Picchu perhaps?) -take time for some sightseeing in the historic center. The main plaza has restaurants all around the square, and walking around town through the narrow streets you will find many discoveries: cathedrals, churches, many restaurants and lots of fun shopping - as well as some museums. We had fun exploring and just walking around to see what we found -and each day we'd find something new. We also thought it well worthwhile to hire a guide for a 1/2 day tour!

yes, we all know about Machu Picchu, and it is fabulous, but this is the true heart of the Inca Empire. do yourself a favor and get a knowledgeable tour guide to give you all the details; it is well worth the investment to learn all the 'back story' of this marvelous place

The Spaniards sadly destroyed Inca temples and built their churches over them. The buildings around have u inquest wooden balconies to survive the earthquakes. There are so many picture opportunities, there is a green park with benches and the security watches so people do not walk on the green grass. There is a nice water fountain also. The downside is they charge a fee to enter the churches

The centre of Cusco is really good to wander around. It is easy to get your bearings, and there is lots to see. The main feature to appreciate is the evidence of the original Incan walls on top of which the colonial city was built.
