Located on the main street in old town, this is nothing more than a long bar that seats maybe 15 - no tables. Very limited opening hours (lunch only?). They do take reservations but only for a limited time (something like 12 - 12:45). When we came at 12:30 on a Wednesday there were only a few people there, but by 1 pm the place was full. All the work is done right in front of you which is kind of cool. Our waitresses were very friendly and attentive. There is a very limited menu, typically fresh fish is involved. I'm not sure the food itself is 5 stars, but overall we really enjoyed eating here.

This place is cool. Long table, everybody sits next to each other. Food is great, no killer prices... plates are medium sized, so beware to order an appetizer first. Good quality, desserts are really good. Definitely a great choice to go in the Old City Town of Montevideo

Don’t think it twice: Estrecho is your place to go.
With only a USD25-35 budget you can have a Grilled Camembert or a Coconut Thai soup as an appetizer + an entrée such as Green Curry or the best Flounder with the best wasabi sauce you’ll ever try!

And please, please leave room for the best deserts you’ll find in Uruguay...there’re delicious art pieces, not just desserts!

Just go to Estrecho, you won’t regret it!

when we first walked in, we knew it was going to great...at each seat on the diner-like set up were well-dressed locals, chatting and watching food amazement before their eyes. The prep stations, grill, and at the end of the restaurant, the dishwashers--were all in the open so one can watch the chefs practice their craft. The food was fairly simple, but so well done. The gazpacho starter was one of the best we've had in the world, including two weeks in Spain. My wife had a shrimp salad--nice greens, grilled shrimp and goat cheese. And while it sounds simple, there was something about it that made the flavors combine into something magnificent. I had the lomo, which was of the highest quality and prepared perfectly. Estrecho takes the freshest ingredients and creativity and make them into something special.

I popped in here for a late lunch (by American standards!) and found a delightful, cozy restaurant! We arrived around 1400 and bellied up to the bar without having to wait. I had an excellent Pad Thai dish with shrimp that was a lunch special along with a delicious tannat. This is an excellent spot if you're in Ciudad Vieja and want a quick, delicious, and affordable meal!
