My husband and I selected the sunset resort for our perfect beach front wedding venue. Ourselves and 14 other of our friends and family stayed at the resort and our accomodation ranged from the two bedroom beach front suite, to the beach front units, to the garden and pool villas. Not one of our guests could fault the accomodation or service they recieved. The meals at the resort resteraunt and the resteraunt close by were beautiful never a fault.

The resorts two pool were fantastic with the smaller pool prefered as this had the drum beat bar and happy hour. The gardens where beautiful always full of birds. The beachfront was amazing for sunsets, the white sands, blue water and palm trees combine for a picturesque location

Our wedding day consisted of a beach wedding followed by a reception under the beach front pergola. It was everything i had hoped and dreamed for so i praise the sunset resort and their staff for our wonderfull day.

We travelled Mid September 2011 as a group of 4 adults & stayed in a two double bedroom Poolside room.

My first impression of the room was that it was a bit tired looking mostly due to “tatty chipped paint work & well worn couches & tables however, a few days before we left they did ask if they could have access to the room to replace some furnishings explaining they had been so fully occupied they had been unable to start their intended upgrade. The room itself was very clean & had a good-sized lounge/diner, bathroom, 2nd toilet, well-equipped kitchenette, two spacious double bedrooms, and a large covered outdoor furnished balcony. One of the bed settee couches also provided the option for extra sleeping room. The rooms are serviced daily & a thorough job done. I have to agree with the earlier reviews about experiencing high traffic noise in the back bedroom; it takes a few nights to get use to it.

The actual resort was beautifully cared for; two lovely well furnished clean pools with shaded areas amidst manicured gardens. A short walk through the gardens leads to the stunning beach with a furnished shaded pergola where you can watch the whales glide past, see a beautiful sunset or doze in a hammock listening to the waves crashing on the reef. Although we were told the resort was fully occupied, it was quiet and tranquil with no issues of finding a sun lounge by the pool or in a shady spot. The water in the lagoon is crystal clear with an abundance of colourful fish. To be honest my earlier gripe about the room quickly became insignificant because the only time we spent in it was sleeping and showering.

The restaurant provides a simple Island breakfast of cereal, fruit & toast etc. or the option of adding on a delicious cooked breakfast at just $10. The cocktail hour at the Drum Bar is a must. There are also three or four good restaurants in easy walking distance from the resort. Be aware, that if you are not ready to eat locally by the latest 8:30 pm you will really struggle to find anywhere open.

So what about the staff? From the moment smiling Kimi picked us up at the airport until she returned us five days later, everyone was friendly and helpful. Yes, things don’t happen overnight but they happen - “Island time” and with a smile. Meitaki Mata Kimi & all of the staff, you helped me rediscover the art of relaxation. We will definately return & treat ourselves to a beach front bungalow.

Room Tip: Rooms backing on to the road are noisy in the back bedrooms. You need to be aware that the "Ro...

As a group of 8, we booked 2x 2 bedroom units beside the pool, they were spotless. Only downside is that the back bedrooms are next to the road and the first few nights not much sleep was had. The pools are wonderful, staff friendly and very obliging, the best part being sitting under the pergola at the waterfront enjoying a cocktails or duty free and looking at the sunset. Talking to people from all over the world, but especially NZ.

Room Tip: Ask for one away from the roadside

Friendly, clean and convenient place to stay. Not too big, but not too small that there wasn't the facilities. Sometimes the reception didn't always get everything right but they were so nice that it didn't make it a problem. If you are an impatient person if you see people being helped at reception then go away and come back. Reception made the person they were dealing with feel that their needs were paramount and would not be rushed. I liked that and rather than wait I just went away and came back. No point worry about it, you are on holiday afterall. 3 good restaurants close by. Really enjoyed 1018, about 10 mins walk to the right.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper stay away from the rooms near the room. Only noticed the traffic the firs...

If you want a holiday where you can relax and turn your brain off, the Cook Islands is the perfect destination. If you want accommodation that has all the amenities wrapped up in a fantastic tropical environment then Sunset Resort is the place to stay. This resort has everything going for it. Situated on the edge of the lagoon you can walk straight into the water and snorkel and hand feed the fish. This place has everything you need, clean filtered water you can drink from the tap, a 1 hourly bus service which stops outside the resort, spacious rooms with all the amenities including kitchenette. The resort’s hotel is great plus you have restaurants either side which serve wonderful meals. Two pools, gorgeous gardens and no insects that bite, at least not when we were there. There is a large resort a short walk away that has an ATM available plus a Liquor mart across the road which is handy when the duty free runs out. Sunset Resort is children free so that is great for people wanting a peaceful holiday. Big bonus is if you are there at the right time of year you may see whales playing in the water directly in front of you. We were very lucky and saw them almost daily. We went for the beach front rooms and were extremely glad we did. To sit on our own deck and watch the sun set directly infront of you can't be beaten and if you lucky you may be able to watch a wedding happening on the beach right in front of you. That's fun. Can’t recommend this place highly enough, wonderful place, great cocktails and the people are so welcoming and friendly.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, book a beach front room, it is well worth it
