The hotel is very conveniently located, two blocks from a supermarket, four blocks from the park and near the downtown.
The room was very good.
They were waiting for us when we arrived at the airport.
Good breakfast including some delicious homemade bread and very nice and welcomimg staff.

My only complaint was that the person who picked us up at the airport, told us not to change money there because the exchange was not good at the airport but we then realised it was because he didn't want to wait the 5 minutes it would have taken us to do so. In addition, the next day, he took us to the airport really early although we did tell him that for domestic flights it was not necessary, but he said we needed to change money. What was not convenient one day apparently it was the other, and indeed we had to wait there for a long time as it was really early.

We would definitely come back.

Room Tip: The room was "Moorea"

Nice pension close to the airport and to Papeete. Beni is very kind and the rooms comfortable. And very good breakfast.
We had also a further shower in the evening just before the flight (check-out already done in the morning): very useful since we spent all the day in the extremely warm Papeete!!

BE AWARE: This is a private house that has been converted to a guest house / B&B; don't expect even basic hotel level amenities. Unfortunately, we trusted all of the extremely positive online reviews. This place was more like a hostel. POSITIVES: the hosts were excellent! They are very nice people and they went out of their way to try to accommodate us and drove us to and from the airport for free and on short notice. NEGATIVES: First room (Tahiti) was 12' x 12' room with a small attached bathroom, when we opened the door to the room, it was at least 95 degrees inside with no air movement. The air conditioning system was not on and the ceiling fan was broken and would not turn on. We immediately turned on the AC which made an extremely loud grinding noise- no way to sleep with the AC on. Several flies were in the room and the place actually looked and felt like a prison cell - the accomodations were extremely minimal. When Beni (one of the hosts) returned from picking up more guests from the airport, he moved us into a second room (Bora); it was much bigger, but the furniture was very basic and looked warn out as well. This room was also very hot inside (no air movement at all). We turned on the air conditioning and it started to cool down. After a few minutes, we noticed that there were ants everywhere. I went to put a bag down on the "Day Bed" and ants literally came crawling out of the comforter- it was absolutely disgusting. But we were exhausted and it was late and we just wanted to get some sleep after a very long day of traveling. There were so many ants in the room, that my wife and I removed the comforter and stripped the top sheet from the main bed and she slept on top of the bed sheet fully clothed. There were also ants crawling around the room- we ended up having ants crawling through our luggage and they were even in the bed by morning! If that wasn't bad enough, there was a constant dripping noise right outside of our room, (it seemed to be coming from a condensation drain from an adjacent room's AC unit on the roof above) that would not stop- it was like being waterboarded all night. To top it off, we heard Roosters crowing all night, and then dogs barking at the roosters. Needless to say, we did not sleep at all and it was a miserable experience. Again, the hosts were very nice people and I wish I had more positives; but I wanted to write a truthful account of our experience to help paint a picture of what we experienced for other guests. In all fairness, we only paid $95 for the night- maybe they need to raise the rates and get additional help to combat their bug/ant problems, update the rooms and achieve better on-going maintenance on their property.

Room Tip: If you book here- make sure to bring bug / ant spray!! You'll need it!!

Beni H, Owner at Fare Suisse Tahiti, responded to this reviewResponded 15 March 2018

Dear guest,

We are very sorry about what you have experienced, and it seems it was definitely not a pleasant stay at our guesthouse Fare Suisse. But let me point out some words about your critique :

First of all we are a “Pension Famille” also called a family guesthouse (for the American guests). So I hope you were aware about this category before you have booked our guesthouse. If not and if you have expected a hotel, it is really not our fault and it is unfair to complain about our house.

Secondly about the ants : during your stay we had a terrible rainy season (3 weeks of ininterruptive rain) and as Tahiti is a tropical island, we are always concerned about ants and bugs in and around the rooms and apply a special treatment.
Yes sometimes it happens that we can not fight against them even we do our best. But I really doubt that you had an invasion of ants even into your luggage and bed, UNLESS you had some food or sweets or nutrition laying around the room. You might also know that under a tropical climate ants are very quickly attracted by any kind of food and especially the sugar.

Also, the day of your departure I notice that you didn’t give any feed back to us even if it would have been much appreciated.

On the contrary you were even sympatic and nothing showed that you had not slept the whole night. You even said that you were happy that we picked you up at the airport late at night because you made a spontaneous reservation just before jumping into the plane.

It is very important to have feedbacks from our guests so that we can improve our service, but not in this way which seems to be done more to “hurt” a business. Anyway, the solar water heater has been fixed thanks to your remark and the noise has disappeared.

Usually I do not react to those feedbacks on Tripadvisor but in this case I just needed to point it out.

And I hope that at last you had a good stay in French Polynesia.

We stayed here for 2 nights before a cruise. Terese picked us up from the airport and took us to the cruise ship dock when it was time to leave. This is a wonderful service that they provide. Our room had a small overhead fan and an air conditioner to keep us cool. The beds were very comfortable. The bathroom had a great shower, plenty of hot water and strong water pressure. We were provided with extra towels that we could use while snorkeling. Breakfast was a simple affair...delicious fresh bread, cold cuts, cheese, yogurt, cereal, fresh fruit, coffee, tea, juice. We liked the fact that this was more reasonably priced than large hotels. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. By the way,if you wish to visit other islands, ferry tickets can be purchased here, eliminating the need to stand in a long line.

Room Tip: Could not provide hotel rating for service, location, value. But I would rate this place a 5 in all categories.

It is a fact that the French Polynesia is very expensive. Found the Fare Suisse Tahiti on the internet. The hotel looks clean and simple so it was OK for a one night stay. Moreover the owner provide transfer so it was really convenient.
We had the Bora Bora room which was huge. There are other rooms which are all name after the all the islands.
Breakfast was simple and WIFI works but weak signal in the room.
Anyway this is an island hotel so do not expect it to be a Sheraton or Marriott. But we did enjoy our stay.
Plus point it is located slightly up a hill but still within walking distant to the city. Nearby there is also a supermarket and restaurants.
