Clean modern room with great looking bathroom. Nice pool area with reasonable drinks and food. Surrounded by golf course and natural environment. You can see the monkeys in the tree's and take a nature trail from the resort. Breakfast was plentiful and great choice of hot and cold food.

Dead ambience, no service, not clean.
With this property you could really make a good resort but it seamed totally mismanged. Good breakfast and nice but somewhat unclean pool area.
Rooms are ok but was not clean and toilet paper was missing. Checked out after one night and changed hotel.

Prior to booking, I had a few general questions about the golf course and accommodation packages. Despite several attempts to contact the hotel directly I was forced to deal with the call center which we found to be a waste of time. We rolled the dice and booked our 7 night stay anyway.
Upon arrival we were greeted and checked in by a friendly and efficient clerk named Louisaura.
Our first room had a great south east view, 7th floor overlooking the jungle. We had to demand to move from suite 714 three days into our stay due to an insanely strong paint thinner smell. They were refinishing the suite next door and must have spilled a whole pail of Xylene. When we complained, the front desk clerk did not seem to care and suggested it would be unlikely we would be able to change rooms. After we returned to the room several hours later, toxic smell still present, Louisara took care of moving us to 510 (another great view, north east) quickly and efficiently.
Both rooms were nice and clean, both beds were comfy.
Both bathrooms were clean; shower was nice, great water pressure and temperature. The shower and sink in 510 did not drain very well at all.
Housekeeping in 714 was poor and very inconsistent. Every day they were always forgetting something (coffee, towels, etc.) Housekeeping in 510 was excellent, Anyela did a fine job.
TV channels are local.
The restaurant staff is slow and rude. Laura is the best server in the restaurant. The food is pretty good and the breakfast buffet was decent.
Pool area is nice and relatively clean.
The “market” at reception is as expected, limited items and overpriced.
The surrounding jungle is beautiful. We saw many birds and monkeys right outside our balcony. Caiman and a black leopard(!) on the golf course. The Palm trail is nice but it is unfortunate people think it is ok to litter wherever they go.

Golf -
The website and call center staff are misleading! We booked the stay and play package for two people but upon arrival we were told only one of us could golf at this rate. We were forced to pay an additional $70 USD for an additional player!
$70 USD is severely overpriced ($70USD) for what you get:
No caddies, no locker rooms, no bottled water in the carts, one temporary green.
Driving range, 3/10. All downhill so your distance is unknown, hitting areas were beaten up.
Putting green, 6/10. Although still burnt in spots, best green on the property.
Pro shop, 6/10.
Pro shop staff, 6/10.
Tee boxes, Fairways and Greens, 4/10. All very brown/dry and tough to find a green spot anywhere.
Bunkers were ok but very inconsistent. Basically, the course conditions were crap. I’m not exaggerating the conditions because I played poorly, I still enjoyed the layout and played to my handicap.
Pace of play was excellent during weekdays as there were not many people on the course.
Beverage cart was decently stocked and seen often.

Overall the property has been poorly maintained and will require a significant investment and down time to bring this facility back to its former glory. I can only assume the management either doesn’t have the budget for the required maintenance or simply doesn’t know any better.

PS - There is a police training camp nearby and the shooting range opens around 9am every morning. I preferred to imagine the gunshots were a result of guerrilla warfare.

We’re not golfers, but overall we were happy we chose this place, partly because of its proximity to Gamboa. Many plusses along with a few negatives. While the room we ended up with was quite nice and comfortable, this hotel does exhibit some weathering as well as wear and tear here and there, so I suspect none of the rooms are 100% perfect in terms of things working properly. Our first room had three problems and the second had a noisier AC system and a minor problem with the sink. This kind of experience is not uncommonl in Panama. The included buffet breakfast varies a bit day to day. Great omelets one morning and only tasteless scrambled eggs the next, for example. Panamanians like their sweets, so don’t expect much that’s health-oriented in the muffins, breads, or cereals (decent rye bread, though). They change the hot foods selection a bit every day, but some things, like the selection of three or four fresh tropical fruits, remains pretty consistent. Good-sized main pool officially open 9AM-7PM, but you can go in anytime after dawn at your own risk, plus smaller kids pool. Main pool is about 25 metres, but for length swimmers like me one end is too shallow to swim in, so I just did a loop of the deeper part for my mile. Music at poolside can be annoying (ranges from quite loud to soft to sometimes none, and being either pounding pop or easy listening, depending on the time of day and the whim of the adjacent restaurant staff. Not a lot of loungers available poolside, so if the hotel is near full you might be out of luck by mid morning (the building blocks the sun by the pool mid-day anyway). Helpful staff. Hiking trail leads off of golf course, but we didn’t see much of any wildlife, even around dusk (early morning is best, apparently). Not much in the way of biting insects in the dry season. Rooms are clean and quite spacious, with black-out curtains. There are no other restaurants within about 15 minutes driving, but we found the hotel restaurant to be pretty decent and staff friendly.

Tips re room: If you want an inexpensive room with a spectacular rainforest view without noise coming from the pool or parking lot ask for a room higher up (floors 5 to 8) that faces east or north. After we booked we emailed the hotel with this request and the room we first got, on floor 6, had some problems so next day we asked to switch. Thankfully the hotel wasn’t too busy and they let us look at a couple on floor 7. We lucked out on a corner room with wrap-around balcony (room 713), extraordinary view facing northeast, and a bathtub (bathtubs don’t seem to be too common in Panama hotels–our first room only had a shower, albeit a really nice roomy one). Check any room out before taking your luggage to it. Check that the safe, fridge and TV are working, that the AC is working and not ridiculously loud, the bathroom fixtures (run the tap to be sure there’s hot water, and the pressure can vary from room to room), bed sheets, etc. Balconies don’t have chairs, but we got one of the bellhops to snag us a couple so we could relax outside our room and enjoy the view.

Tip re TV: We had trouble finding English speaking stations on the TV and were told by reception there was only one, CNN. However, by patiently going through most of the several hundred channels we found quite a few more. Ask at reception and they may have an updated list. I didn’t go through the entire range of channels below 400, but here is what I did find: 695, 689, 679, 677, 646, 637, 636, 514, 513, 511, 365, 108, 106, and 105. However, if they’ve changed their television service provider by the time you’ve arrived, which they’ve done before, those numbers will be irrelevant.

Tips re driving there: If driving from Tocumen airport, get on the Corridor Norte toll road. It is very easy to miss the entrance to this road and extremely easy to get lost if you do miss it. Have a good road map of the area and use the Waze app or GPS if you have one. Don’t rely on what anyone at the airport tells you, and be aware that signage is probably going to be sparse, inconsistent or non-existent where you will need it most. If going by that toll road, just make sure you take the last turnoff on the right before the new bridge because there is no turnaround for many miles after that and the pavement is terribly bumpy.

Tip re special Panamanian holidays: During some holidays and especially at carnival time (5 days in February) it can be very hard to get a room in many parts of Panama, including this hotel. If staying during carnival you should try to book somewhat in advance. The price will be substantially higher here if you try to get a room last minute during carnival.

Room Tip: Rrainforest view, without noise coming from the pool or parking lot. Ask for one higher up facing east or north. Corner rooms are great.

The Summit golf course is suppose to be a resort style course. It looks like they have put very little money in maintaining the greens. The layout is confusing and there very few signs showing the correct directions to the next hole. We ordered food at the turn which never arrived. It was waiting for us in the restaurant two hours later. Once we finished the round, none of the staff offered to help us with our clubs. This was a bad experience. I would not recommend this course and will not play again on subsequent visits!!!
