We had not been to Nantucket before, and friends have said it is such a nice place, so we choose to stay at the White Elephant for a couple of days to see for ourselves. Nantucket is truly a very nice place, very relaxing and a wonderful place to get out of the summer heat of the south. The While Elephant is a small hotel on the bay, and has great service. It has simple, understated elegant decor, and is very quiet. There is a restaurant that looks out at the bay, and cocktails on the lawn was a perfect place to relax. The restaurant food was very good (lobster was the best ever), and all of the staff are so nice.
Town is close, so no car is needed; you can walk to everything or take s short cab ride (like to the airport). Bikes are a great way to see the island, and the hotel has some for rent. I really can't say enough about the staff and how they are so nice and helpful. The only complaint I would have is that there are no umbrellas for the lounge chairs, and no where to sit out of the sun except in the restaurant (which is covered by an awning), and at the few tables on the lawn (where you need to order something). It would have been nice to sit on our deck out of the sun or on the lawn looking at the beautiful view, but not in direct sun.
We will return next year for a longer time since it was so enjoyable.

Room Tip: Room 250 - wonderful deck and view

Dear ubertrvler;

Thank you for posting your review! I am so glad you enjoyed your stay. Our location is certainly convenient to everything. We are so lucky.

For those of our guests with sun sensitivity, we do offer lawn umbrellas that the bellmen will install. The only time we caution use is during windy days. Being right on the Harbor that can certainly be the case from time to time. We also have some rooms and suites on the first floor that have covered porches. While we cannot guarantee specific room numbers, we do take preferences such as these into account when we assign room numbers to guests. We do the very best we can.

We look forward to welcoming you again soon!

Sincerely,

Bettina Landt

Love the White Elephant. Got engaged here and we go back every year to celebrate. Charming rooms, impeccably clean and the service and staff are five star. Graham was on duty for our engagement and discreetly followed us on our walk to the Brant Point Lighthouse and surprised us (me anyway) with a chilled bottle of champagne. When we got back to the room we found a congratulations note with chocolate covered strawberries and a new bottle of champagne. They were fabulous.

Dear michelle d;

Thank you for staying with us every year! Graham is so thoughtful. He was promoted this year to Innkeeper at the Cottages at the Boat Basin, another one of our wonderful properties. Well deserved.

I am so happy to hear that you once again enjoyed your trip!

It is sad my review was removed because I told the truth and this establishment did not like it. The fact is, our service was awful, they knew it and they said they would make amends and didn't. I'm sorry, this place is overrated and overpriced. Im not the only one to say this. Cheers!

My husband and I had a wonderful 3 night stay last weekend - July 9th. We stayed in one of the harbor view rooms on the first floor that also has a small deck. Lovely inside and out. The Brandt Pt Grille staff is very accommodating and the food was excellent. They got wind of it being an anniversary trip by a mere mention from my husband when making a reservation and they brought us a cake with a candle plus champagne in our room when we arrived. That's customer service. If you think it's dead (and it almost is) please stay here. (Once you realize that Nantucket comes with a $$$ price tag - relax and enjoy!) The gentleman, Kevin, who picked us up at the ferry was super friendly and honestly - by the time we left on Monday we were hugging it out with him. The front desk staff too was very friendly - we also liked seeing them at Cook's when we rented a jeep. One slight snafu and it was a mere oversight...we arrived at 4pm on a Friday and the BPG has 'buck a shuck' deal on oysters until 4:30pm. My husband loves oysters and this would have made his day. Wish the front desk had told us this upon arrival - we did have 30 minutes to slurp down a few with a cocktail!! Otherwise - great service, food, bed linens, etc.

Room Tip: Room 157, first floor - v quiet and great view

Dear Lindsey R;

Thank you for taking the time to review us. I am so glad that you and your husband had a wonderful anniversary trip! It is always such a treat for us to make special occasions just that: special.

I am happy to hear that you had such a nice rapport with Kevin. He has been with my team for many years and is a wonderful person.

Buck - A - Shuck is indeed every Friday during the Summer from 2:30PM - 4:30PM and is very popular. We offer Oysters and Clams on ice for one dollar each and you will often see our Executive Chef, Tom Pearson, out there himself, shucking and taking in the beautiful view.

We hope to see you again soon!

Sincerely,

Top price comes with high expectations. White Elephant just didn't meet them. From misleading pool access remarks online between properties to use of other shared amenities and a wait staff that is clearly lacking experience and training the experience just didn't measure up. First place to start? Training on basics of courtesy and hospitality should take the place of pushing the next bottle of wine and perhaps alleviate the arrogance that apparently comes standard with the hiring process in the restaurant. The porters and hotel concierge were wonderful but couldn't offset the other negatives.

Thank you for your review;

We appreciate you taking the time to post a review. You bring up the point of shared amenities, and it is a great one. Our White Elephant Village is essentially the club level to our brand. With the premium choice of making a reservation at the Village versus the hotel, you have access to the pool and the bikes along with their larger fitness room. Some guests prefer those amenities, and the proximity to the harbor is less important, other guests feel that the harbor-side location and on-site restaurant are a 'must' and therefore choose to forgo the Village amenities and stay at the White Elephant Hotel.

Pertaining to your feedback in the Brant Point Grill, we are happy to review this with the team. We do seat each table with menus and also a wine list. This is done so each customer has the option of selecting their wine from our printed wine list. I know from personal experience that it is always nice to get a feel for price list with a printed menu, so that the decision-making is easier when the time comes to order.

I'm glad you enjoyed the porters and our concierge. They are truly delightful.

Sincerely,

Bettina Landt
