This inn and its owners were a wonderful surprise for us! Being sent to the Island for work and getting a room on short notice left us wondering what we would end up with as Nantucket is so busy at this time of year! We I'm happy to report that things couldn't have worked out better if we had planned it! The owner and her staff were so helpful and pleasant and the room was comfy and thank goodness had an air conditioner! It's humid on the Island. We would tell anyone looking for a room on Nantucket to come here and enjoy real New England hospitality!

We just can't say enough about the Anchor Inn at Nantucket. This is our fourth stay there over years and every time is just as relaxing as the last!
Close enough to downtown with all the shops and restaurants but out of the evening hustle and bustle.
Bring or rent a bicycle for getting to other areas of the island.
The Innkeepers live here and are attentive to your needs and interests around the island....making you feel right at home.
The rooms are well kept, comfortable tidy and quaint.
Don't miss Charles home made muffins with fresh coffee....the best!
We look forward to our next stay!

A doable walk from the ferry if you're not toting a lot of luggage which we were not. The price is good for Nantucket; breakfast is fresh fruit & muffins. The rooms are fine; one room has a small porch with chairs but there really isn't room to sit in them. There is a nice outdoor area with plenty of seating for multiple guests so don't pay extra for the little porch. It is requested that no food or beverages be taken into the living room. There is a refrigerator in the breakfast area that can be used by guests, there is not a microwave available.

I had always wanted to visit this inn, as I had read the book "Innside Nantucket" about Bob and Barb Gilbreth years ago as a child. It took 35 years to get there, but we were able to visit the island before the tropical storm made it impossible. We dropped in to this inn, without any notice, and Ann, the owner could not have been more welcoming. She gave us a tour of the downstairs (we didn't see any room, as they all were occupied) and the breakfast area. We talked about the history of the inn, the Gilbreths, where to visit on the island, etc. As we were leaving, she even gave us some of the muffins that her husband bakes for their continental breakfasts. What a truly nice person- we thoroughly enjoyed our time here. What we saw of the Inn was beautiful, and we will have to come here and actually stay!

The Anchor Inn is located on Centre Street a block from American Seasons.

Pros: Rooms are well decorated with comfortable bed. Ample dressers and large closet (something not always found on Nantucket).
Outside breakfast area is cute, quiet, and comfortable.

We didn't really see the innkeepers during our stay, but this was because we were really only there to sleep! The brief encounter we had with Ann was pleasant.

Cons: This is a 200 year old inn, and some of the common areas feel that way (carpet on stairs smelled a little mildewy (I'm sensitive to that) and the walls were definitely feeling their age.

The rooms, fortunately, do not have this feel, and smelled fresh. Bathroom was small, but the water pressure was fantastic and there was plenty of hot water (something else not always found on Nantucket).

Coffee, tea, muffins, and fruit were offered from 8-10:30.

I have preferred other inns on the island, however I would not hesitate to stay again.
