The Hotel Casa Antigua was a nice little hotel. It was very central, but was surprisingly quiet. Hotel staff was generally helpful and kind and a few of the front desk staff spoke English, which was a bonus. I will definitely stay here again

We appreciate the comments. We take pride in our old style rooms we have available to our guests. These rooms speak to the antiquity of Antigua. We are glad you had a great stay at our hotel.

We stayed in 2 different rooms at this lovely hotel. The first night, we stayed in Room #4. It was a large room with 4 queen (or double, i can't recall) beds. It was spacious, nicely-decorated with a nice bathroom area. The only noise we heard were people returning to their rooms later in the evening (just as you would in a hotel hallway, but there is a outside courtyard area where the rooms are located around). The second night we stayed in Room 12 (I think). I was located on the left side as you entered the courtyard hotel desk area. This particular room did have a bit of noise from another room/business. We were able to use a White Noise app on our cell phone to drown out the noise so we could sleep. This room had 2 queen beds and a 1/2 loft area with 2 twin beds. It was also spacious and well-decorated. The bathroom sink was in the room, but the toilet and shower were in a small room set apart. The bathroom was a bit smaller in this room.

For the price, which was negotiable, we felt it was a very nice, safe, well-situated location. The hotel has a large door that was closed at night which prevented entry to anyone not staying at the hotel. There was always someone at the reception desk, should we have a need.

The hotel will arrange for transportation and tours for guests. We found their tour prices to be quite good, compared to other hotels. All tours booked at the hotel had pick up at our hotel. We took the Pacaya volcano tour and were happy with it. One van picked us up and 'merged' us with another van. I appreciated only making a couple stops, verses stops all over the city. The van was not air-conditioned, but we didn't really need it, and having slightly less 'luxurious' van 'amenities' meant we were paying for a much more affordable tour ($11 plus 50Q ($6.81 US) entrance fee to the volcano reserve OR pay $50++pp for AC, bottle of water and an English guide to the reserve only. Once at the reserve, you must hike/horseback to the volcano with guides who will likely speak little Spanish - which was not a problem. Unless you are in GREAT shape, opt to ride the horses on the hike. With the elevation and steepness of the hike, you'll be glad you paid the extra 100Q ($13.62US).

We had a mix-up with the hotel regarding transportation services with our initial arrival to the hotel. MAKE CERTAIN you have secured a VOUCHER if you are using a hotel service prior to your arrival. If you do not have a voucher, you are not confirmed for transportation. I'm not exactly sure how you will get the voucher prior to your arrival, perhaps through email??

We will definitely consider staying at this hotel on a future trip, but we'll ask for a 'quiet room'. They are happy to accommodate this request and they are very good about communicating with you if you have any questions via email (in English too) or at the front desk. I hope to return to Hotel Casa Antigua!

Room tip: ask for a 'quiet room'

If you want to be at a confortable hotel close to everything stay here. Price is very good and they have coffee and tea complimentary. WiFi is very good and the people make you feel at home. You can eat next door or get to a great variety of restaurants within walking distance. Less than 2 minutes.
The only good and bad is that the restaurant next door at night makes a karaoke night and if you want to fall sleep must wait until after midnight or just go and join them

Very friendly staff goes above expectations to be helpful. Rooms are clean. Water pressure is good, Breakfast is decent (though not outstanding).

The from the rooftop terrace (or room #9) really puts this over the top though. 360 deg view from terrace is wonderful at sunset. I also opened the window of our room (#9) and photographed fabulous scenes of a lightning storm over the PC skyline.

Room tip: Room #9 has great view of the PC skyline
