The Vila Curic Apartments are good, very good in fact. But you need to ask yourself a few questions should you decide to stay here and I'll tell you why.
The apartments are situated some distance from the old town of Dubrovnik on the Lapad/Babin Kuk peninsula. They are also on the top of a very steep hill and consequently to get anywhere you have to go down the hill and to return to the apartments you have to climb it! So for anyone with mobility problems the location is not ideal although the plus side of this is that you are rewarded with spectacular views across the new harbour and bridge to the Dinaric Mountains beyond. There is a bus (No.6) that connects Babin Kuk with the Old Town and this stops just 100m away from Vila Curic. The fare is a standard 15Kuna and the bus runs at ten minutes intervals. Be warned that at certain times of the day the buses can be very crowded.
The apartments themselves were built in 2001 and still retain a modern, up to date feel. We had an apartment on the third floor (there is a lift) which was very spacious. Two bedrooms (a double and a twin) living room, large bathroom and a very small kitchen area. Although the kitchen area was very well stocked with crockery, cutlery, pots and pans the actual cooking area was basic. One and a half electric rings on the hob and a microwave oven was all you had to work with and no real surface to prep food. There was also a filter coffee machine that we made good use of. There was a large dining table with six chairs but our apartment had no balcony, so no alfresco dining for us! Basically if you plan to do a lot of cooking on your holiday this apartment may not suit you. We didn't. We only ate breakfast here.
We chose Vila Curic as it had the added bonus of a pool which is situated on the roof of the adjacent building and open from 8.00am to 8.00pm. The pool area is spotlessly clean but small. In fact there are only nine sun-loungers, although the greatest number of people we ever saw using them was six. There are no parasols either so at certain times of the day there is no shade to be had. Unfortunately the pool currently overlooks an empty building plot which was covered in weeds and builders rubble.
The best thing about Vila Curic are the wonderful staff. Nothing is too much trouble for them and they always have a cheery smile for you from the receptionist to the cleaning lady. We arrived at 8.30pm on our first day and our host drove us to the Lapad Grill restaurant pointing out supermarkets, bakeries and bus stops en route. A really nice gesture. The Lapad district is about 300-400m down the hill from Vila Curic and has a wide selection of bars, restaurants and a large "Tommy" supermarket.
If you are fit and don't mind the hill Via Curic is a great place to stay. I'd certainly have no hesitation in recommending it for a holiday in this charming part of Croatia.
