The Vila Curic Apartments are good, very good in fact. But you need to ask yourself a few questions should you decide to stay here and I'll tell you why.

The apartments are situated some distance from the old town of Dubrovnik on the Lapad/Babin Kuk peninsula. They are also on the top of a very steep hill and consequently to get anywhere you have to go down the hill and to return to the apartments you have to climb it! So for anyone with mobility problems the location is not ideal although the plus side of this is that you are rewarded with spectacular views across the new harbour and bridge to the Dinaric Mountains beyond. There is a bus (No.6) that connects Babin Kuk with the Old Town and this stops just 100m away from Vila Curic. The fare is a standard 15Kuna and the bus runs at ten minutes intervals. Be warned that at certain times of the day the buses can be very crowded.

The apartments themselves were built in 2001 and still retain a modern, up to date feel. We had an apartment on the third floor (there is a lift) which was very spacious. Two bedrooms (a double and a twin) living room, large bathroom and a very small kitchen area. Although the kitchen area was very well stocked with crockery, cutlery, pots and pans the actual cooking area was basic. One and a half electric rings on the hob and a microwave oven was all you had to work with and no real surface to prep food. There was also a filter coffee machine that we made good use of. There was a large dining table with six chairs but our apartment had no balcony, so no alfresco dining for us! Basically if you plan to do a lot of cooking on your holiday this apartment may not suit you. We didn't. We only ate breakfast here.

We chose Vila Curic as it had the added bonus of a pool which is situated on the roof of the adjacent building and open from 8.00am to 8.00pm. The pool area is spotlessly clean but small. In fact there are only nine sun-loungers, although the greatest number of people we ever saw using them was six. There are no parasols either so at certain times of the day there is no shade to be had. Unfortunately the pool currently overlooks an empty building plot which was covered in weeds and builders rubble.

The best thing about Vila Curic are the wonderful staff. Nothing is too much trouble for them and they always have a cheery smile for you from the receptionist to the cleaning lady. We arrived at 8.30pm on our first day and our host drove us to the Lapad Grill restaurant pointing out supermarkets, bakeries and bus stops en route. A really nice gesture. The Lapad district is about 300-400m down the hill from Vila Curic and has a wide selection of bars, restaurants and a large "Tommy" supermarket.

If you are fit and don't mind the hill Via Curic is a great place to stay. I'd certainly have no hesitation in recommending it for a holiday in this charming part of Croatia.

Room Tip: Not all rooms have balconies but all are air-conditioned.

We stayed at the Villa Curic for 7 nights and found it to be a lovely place. The owner and his staff are very friendly and helpful. It's a short bus ride from the old city, but there are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby in the centre of Lapad. The only downside is that it's an uphill walk from the centre back to the apartments and the latter part is quite steep. If you've had a long day day taking in the sights and then had a hearty meal, it can be a bit of struggle.

Room Tip: The ground-floor apartment we were in ((102) had what is best described as a patio, but the high wal...

My wife and I stayed in a one bedroom apartment in Vila Curic as part of a British Airways flight and hotel package. It was our first visit to Croatia and we were delighted with our choice of accommodation.

Vila Curic has 14 apartments of different sizes. Our small apartment was on the second floor. The accommodation comprised three rooms – a living area with a kitchenette, a double bedroom and a shower room with toilet and bidet. The living / dining room had a two-seater settee and a square table with four dining chairs. The kitchen area had a small sink, a 2 ring electric hob, microwave and fridge (no ice box). The kitchen was provided with enough crockery, cutlery and glassware. Washing up proved a little tricky as there was nowhere for crockery to drain. The bedroom had a double bed with thin duvets and some storage. There was a large wardrobe outside the bedroom. Helpfully, in this there was a safe, provided free of charge. There was always plenty of hot water and the shower operated with an impressive pressure.

A few practical tips: washing up liquid, sponge /scourer, tea towels and kitchen towels are provided. There was a smallish ‘Tomy’ supermarket within a 10 minute walk from the apartments although the return journey up slopes and steps was a challenge when carrying bottles, tins and fresh produce. There is a larger ‘Konzum’ supermarket about 10 minutes’ drive away, situated near the ferry in Gruz. There is free access to the internet in the apartments – this was a major plus with a strong signal. Free parking is available behind the apartments. There is a small infinity pool with a few sun-loungers and a couple of benches. This gets full sun in the morning until mid-afternoon.

It took us a while to learn our way around the Lapad / Babin Kuk peninsula. We were very grateful to the owner who provided us with a motor-cycle escort to the relatively large ‘Konzum’ supermarket on our first full day. This proved typical of the kindness and concern for guests’ well-being. Within walking distance there are plenty of opportunities for eating, drinking and a couple of beaches. That said, it was good decision to rent a car as this increased the range of places we could visit. Whilst we were in the area, we saw lengthy queues for buses – a prospect with little appeal!

The apartments and the public areas are kept immaculately clean. There is little noise transmission from adjacent apartments, except for when people are walking down the stairs between floors. The friendly and helpful nature of the staff and owner made the holiday a highly memorable experience – they are passionate in ensuring guests have the most relaxing and carefree time.

I would whole heartedly recommend Vila Curic as an ideal place to stay in southern Croatia. It provides the options and convenience of self-catering with so many places to eat out and things to do.

Stayed her for one week in September this year, and would definitely recommend both the apartments and the resort. We arrived early before our room was ready and the owner Franjo drove us down to the local shops and bars so we could have a wander and drink, which was very kind of him. I'm so glad we stayed slightly away from the old city as we went for walks around Babin Kuk and other areas which we probably wouldn't have done if we'd been nearer. We had an apartment with a huge balcony and had beautiful views over the water. Breakfast was delivered to the room every day at our choice of time, which was lovely, and the maid even washed up our plates every day! Room was lovely and clean, albeit the shower was very small - my boyfriend is about 6 ft 2 and found it a bit of a squash! Although there was only two of us, we were in a two bedroom apartment, so plenty of room for clothes and suitcases. Wifi was great and there are some English channels on the TV. The rooftop pool is a lovely idea and a great way to cool down at the end of the day. The bus stop is just down the road from the apartment and ran about every 10 minutes which was great as we went to the old city during the day then back again in the evening so were frequent travellers. It was lovely to stay in a family run apartment and I would definitely recommend you take a look at booking here as you won't be disappointed. Thank you for making us feel so welcome, and making our stay so enjoyable.

Room Tip: Book a room with a balcony as you will have fantastic views.
