This hotel gets top points from me for the great location and old world charm. It is one of a few hotels located in the old town of Dubrovnik. Breakfast, cooked to order, is served on the fifth floor terrace with an amazing view of the old city! There are a few caveats. Vehicles are not allowed within the walls of the old city so you will need to drag your luggages from the nearest gate (Pile Gate) to the hotel (around 10 minutes). The hotel is located just off the main street of the old city.
The hotel also does not have an elevator. The buildings within the walls are understandably protected so only limited rennovations can be done. The rooms and beds are small but well appointed. Note that the first floor rooms are a flight of steps from the street level. We had rooms 201 and 301 which were very charming. The windows do effectively shut off the noise from the street so noise was not an issue for us.
I would not recommend this hotel for someone who has disabilities or problems climbing stairs. You might be better off getting a hotel outside the walled city but then you loose on the charm and beauty of being in the middle of this wonderful city.

We stayed at this hotel 7years ago, - that was whiy we got back. And just to find the hotel even better and totaly renovatid, and to be met of the most friendly and serviceminded crew. The only problem was disturbing noice from outside very early in the morning. But we realy enjoyed the days in the charming hotel and the beautiful old town of Dubrovnik.

Room Tip: Keep away from the noisy morning activities from outside the hotel. When there are no elevator, guests with movingproblems should be placed in the lowest floors. Handicapped guests will also be unable to reach the breakfastrestaurant on the top floor.

What a beautiful little hotel in the heart of the old town in Dubrovnik! We had a lovely little room on the 4th floor which was very well appointed and modern. This hotel is not for the faint hearted as it does involve climbing lots of stairs but the rooftop terrace is a real treat. Have breakfast while all the other tourists wander round the walled city!! Fantastic. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was excellent. We will definitely be back to the Stari Grad!

Room Tip: The rooms are quiet if you keep the windows closed but that means you need to use the air conditioning which some people wouldn't like.

We stayed there for a couple of nights during our trip to Montenegro/Croatia and I cannot say enough great things about the hotel. It is right in the old town (from what I believe it is only one of TWO hotels in the old town) and the location is amazing! It has the only open terrace in all of old town - this is where the hotel restaurant is (breakfast and dinners are served there) and the view from the top is amazing. I could hardly believe my eyes when we went there for breakfast - the breakfast is pretty great as well - they basically cook ANYTHING you ask them for. And the crossaints and fresh squeezed orange juice that they bring as a 'starter' are so good. The building itself is old but they recently did a complete renovation and inside it looks new and modern - loved the room. It was not too big but the views from the windows - of the clock tower and tiled room was great. The only negative (and this is not the fault of the hotel) is that there is no elevator (it is an old building after all) - we were on the forth floor - which is really 5th so walking up 5 flights of stairs several times a day was a good work out:) I will DEFINITELY recommend this hotel for a stay in Dubrovnik.

Room Tip: There are only 8 rooms in the whole hotel and I am sure they are all great. We had a room on the top (4th floor) overlooking the watch tower (room 402) - I think that's the room with the best view!

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Stari Grad for two nights in September 2014. A small hotel on a side street off the main plaza, easy to find with the "flags" listing the hotels and restaurants in that street. We knew inside the walls was an auto free zone and planned ahead. A taxi dropped us at the Pile gate, there is a ramp for those with suitcases, the biggest problem was making our way through the crowds.
The staff very friendly and helpful, we were able to drop our bags earlier in the day. There is no elevator, but the staff handled our bags for us. The room was comfortable and quiet , very modern design. Breakfast is served on the rooftop terrace or in the lobby on a rainy day. Dinner is served on the rooftop,Make reservations. Not much can beat a nice wine and watching the sunset over the city!
Loved the place.

Room Tip: If you don't want to walk up lots of stairs, ask for lower level room.
