Really lovely hostel with sea views, clean bathrooms and rooms, airey rooms, good wifi and helpful staff (who inform you of local buses, beaches and landmarks). I'd definitely return, however I did feel too 'mothered' - the hostel virtually shuts down at 11, dead silence is enforced from 12-8am and staff even called in during the night to close the windows. Also, the bar area wasn't very lively. Overall, a very nice hostel though.

This hostel is beautifully located in terms of the city, the train station and the airport. The hostel itself is well equipped, very clean with spacious rooms. However if its atmosphere you're looking for, this is not the place to be. The hostel has strict rules on noise limits after 11pm which to me was unnecessarily early.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the sea have absolutely amazing views

In my trip to Pula, Croatia, I stayed at Hostel Riva right along the beach near the center of town. It was there I met Jasmine.
Jasmine co-owns the hostel with her brother Skender.
The hostel is open from April to October and offers nearly 60 beds, some of which have a seafront view. The hostel is very clean, and the terrace is a great place to hang out and meet friends. The other staff, Karmela and Josipa, are very helpful too.
Rooms range from €15-€22, and privates are either €48 or €56. This great hostel is fully booked throughout the summer, so plan early.
This is definitely the place I would recommend to stay in Pula. And why Pula? Besides the fact that it's in Croatia, flights from London are as cheap as €45 on NorwegianAir. From here, it's only a short trip to Plitvice Lakes. Of course, you don't need to travel that far to see the amazing beaches, enjoy the endless club scene or explore the Roman ruins, including an arena right in the heart of town.

I've been on a study trip in Croatia for a week and have visited four different hostels. This hostel was by far the most friendly and relaxing hostel. During my stay we had a few times that the receptionist had to open the door at night, because an other roommate had the key. His reaction was very friendly and he even explained in detail in the middle of the night how and where we could rent some bikes the following day.
There is a really nice bar and terrace where you can have a good (cheap) beer and the rooms are very big. Although some rooms need a closet.

When I got home in the Netherlands I realized I lost my keys in the hostel. After a couple of mails they sent them to my home adress for free! I am really grateful for this service and would definitely stay in this hostel again if I will go back to Pula.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Welcome to Riva Hostel, an extension of the top-rated hostel in Croatia, and the most successful in Pula! Located in the heart of Pula's centre and at the famous Pula waterfront (Riva), we are a few steps away from the historic Forum and Kandlerova Street, which boasts some of the most impressive Roman architecture in Croatia, as well as a variety of cafes, bars, and shops. Pula's breathtaking Amphitheatre ('Arena') is a mere five-minute walk from Riva Hostel, and all of Pula's main attractions are within proximate walking distance. Located inside a quiet Austro-Hungarian courtyard building, our newly renovated space consists of many large and spacious sleeping rooms, a huge rooftop terrace with lounge chairs and a bar - great meeting point for our guests! In addition, we offer a common area with TV, free internet computer station and Wi-Fi throughout the property. Each room in our hostel has very tall ceilings, which makes sleeping with more people in the room quite comfortable! Each room has its own AC unit. Some of the rooms have their own newly renovated bathrooms with spacious shower stalls inside the room, while the rest of the hostel uses a common shower area. In all, there are 13 toilets and 9 showers available at any time! There are three different kitchen areas available for use. You are welcome to help yourself to simple breakfast items in the morning (included in the price), as well as coffee and tea. We also have all kitchen appliances and utensils necessary for cooking and meals. We are equipped with brand-new facilities, including air conditioning, security lockers, free laundry service, DVDs and many other state-of-the-art features that we think are imperative for a modern and convenient hostel experience. We are also very close to the main bus and train stations, and the arriving terminal for all boats and ferries is less than a minute's walk to where we're located - quite useful if you'll be taking a ferry out of Pula to the southern Croatian coast early in the morning! Building upon an already established and highly successful hostel business, our main mission is to make your holiday in Pula as comfortable, relaxing and fun as possible. Our staff is energetic and highly dedicated to the needs of each and every guest. It is our firm belief that going this extra mile is what makes a hostel experience above average, and takes at least some of the stress out of travelling and spending time in a foreign country! We want you to feel at home in our hostel. Each member of our three-person staff has had extensive experience with travel in his/her life. We are all more than happy to share our experiences, recommend travel ideas, provide useful information, and help you clarify and plan the remainder of your travels. English, Spanish, and Croatian/Bosnian/Serbian are spoken here. ... more   less
