Pleasant hotel in an excellent position, very friendly staff, a great choice for families with children. Care should be taken when choosing a room due to night noise. Very clean and tidy, lots of content.

This hotel did not disappoint at all. The food was great and PLENTY of options for both meat eaters and vegetarians. Different options provided every day (staying there 10 days this was really important for us). The buffet was still fully operational just with a difference in that the staff would serve you from behind a screen. The choices for all inclusive drinks were brilliant, a great range of cocktails, prosecco and various local spirits. The staff were all super friendly in the restaurant and bar. Most days of our stay were fairly quiet due to nearing end of season. Some days got busier over the weekends, but this was never a problem in fact it only made it better as it opened up more choice for the buffet, I think it may have had one station closed due to lower number of guests, but again this wasn't an issue as there was still so much choice. We visited the spa daily and it was totally relaxing, (due to lower number of guests I imagine). We spent a lot of time in the relaxation/spa tea lounge, perfect for laying and reading. I had 2 treatments while there (massage and a face/head massage), both were fabulous. The bedroom was lovely and clean and spacious, comfortable bed, I think we stayed in a family comfort sea side room (though there was only 2 of us), the view was incredible. We took out the bikes a couple of days and rode to Diklo and Zadar old town. Things to potentially improve I would suggest using plastic glasses more around the pool area, or a more thorough check by each area as we noticed there was some broken glass under the sun lounger which was there a couple of days, it may well be checked more often when busy though. Overall we had a fantastic stay, 4 days after being home and we have already booked for another 10 nights in May 2021, we can't wait!

We arrived there at 14 pm and the friendly receptionist gave us the room very quick. We booked a room in the "old" bildung which is a little more rustic. The room looked nice but it was very dirty and seamed not cleand at all. Found also an open bottle from someone else... We had the possibility to change the room. It was better but still not clean as expected. The restaurant was nice and clean. The drinks are not original (Cola, Fanta, Orange juice), it is with lots of water mixed. The food was good but every day nearly the same. No theme food evenings and no entertainment. The Staff is very friendly everywhere. Good food on the Snack Bar. The Pool area was nice and also the ocean is near the Hotel. The Spa Pool section is warmer then the other pools which is great. Unfortunately the Pool was broken, tiles where broken and my husband cut his toe. The beach is sandy but small and not cleand. So i can say at the end: the town Zadar and the sights are beautiful but i would choose another hotel.

Dear bettinam91,

thank you for your review here at TripAdvisor!

We first of all appreciate your kind words for our guest-oriented staff, the indoor pool as well as the quality of food at our Restaurant Maestral and the All Inclusive snack bar by the pool.

Regarding your critique when it comes to the cleanliness of the hotel rooms in the non-renovated part we have to point out the fact that the rooms may seem scruffy due to their sheer age. We are planning a complete renovation of that part as well in order to bring the hotel as a whole on a representative and enjoyable level.

We are checking the cleanliness and maintenance of the pool on a daily basis and are replacing loose tiles whenever we come across them. We are very sorry to read that your husband had a mishap in the pool area and cut his toe on the pool tiles but hope that the first aid kit did help with the cut.

We nonetheless hope that you will give us a second chance in the near future in order to prove to you that we take your constructive criticism serious and go above and beyond to offer you the best holiday experience possible.
In the meanwhile we wish you all the best!

Kind regards,

Your team at the Falkensteiner Club Funimation Borik****

Please keep in mind this is a 4 star hotel.

1) Room fraud: we booked the room because of the photos the hotel attached for the room. Advertisted room was really spacious and its bathroom had both a bath and a shower. When we arrived we were told that our room is in a currently reconstructed area and we were getting a better, much better room. When we came to the room - we found it to be completely different from the advertisment. The bed occupied almost all space in the room, the fridge door couldn’t be opened fully because of it, it was miniature and claustrophobic. We asked for a different room and after having to argue the photos weren’t from a good angle, but of a different room - we received a bit bigger room. The front desk staff said “you know how business works”... And the bathroom was very small too, with just a shower cabin - no bath.

2) Hall: in many places in the hotel and in the room one could find stuff that makes no sense or doesn’t work as expected. In the hall leading to the room was an electric shoe cleaner. When I first saw it, next to it was lying a disconnected wire. The day after, a girl plugged it in to clean her shoes - it was working (albeit with a bit weird sound). Next morning it was disconnected again. Basically it was lying dead there until the end of our vacation. Didn’t operate, looked misplaced. No one cared. Not pretty and totally useless.

3) Room inside: (1) door stopper wasn’t flush with the floor - it wasn’t screwed in correctly, it was at 45 degrees to the floor. My husband had to correct and screw it in by force. I guess his workouts finally paid off. (2) you would always damage the inside of a wardrobe door with the sharp safe locker door corners if the safe wasn’t locked. It would bang heavily. (3) the shower doors were getting stuck on the floor and leaking a lot, getting in the shower was very impractical and uncomfortable. Inside of the wardrobe didn’t allow to hang any clothes longer than a standard t-shirt.

4) Buffet area. (1) The staff were very unproffesional. First evening after we came very tired - we got seated in a sort of family-with-children area (every table had a small-child seat). It was very crowded and noisy with kids, we had to ask for a different place. (2) For breakfast you would only be able to fill child size glasses (150 ml?) so you would need to go multiple times to hydrate yourself for 30+ degrees C weather. (3) the juice machine would overfill the little child glass. (4) we asked for bigger glasses and were met with a remark “what? For breakfast?”. (5) I’m a vegetarian (my husband isn’t). There basically wasn’t any food for me. I could make a salad or get a pizza piece. Otherwise the food contained meat. No one understood what vegetarians eat, I guess according to them I should have had a carrot with tomato everyday. I asked the chefs almost every day of the stay to please prepare something hot and vegetarian. Everyday felt like nobody remembered. If there was a hot vegetarian dish - it was boiled kale or similar. Many dishes they offered were single ingredients - califlower or brocolli - and you couldn’t make whole food of it. No sauce was available. (6) My husband was also dissapointed, as food was generally very oily. He said that last day even non-vegetarian dishes looked very distasteful - some of it looked like prison food. And that coming from a person he can eat pretty much eat anything. (7) For some reason everytime you asked for “little bit of” anything, they would give you a huge portion so I received a whole plate of big pieces of mozarella from the kitchen.

5) Beach area. The hotel claims they have a sandy beach right in front of the hotel. Well, there is sand. Until you step in the water and realize there are many sharp rocks right from the start. You could endure it, but it takes a lot of effort and coordination not to injure your feet. Gladly I had water shoes with me. Also the beach wasn’t clean really - broken trash bin, plastic bottles, dirt. Also some one tried collecting money from us for using sunbeds on the beach. if we understand correctly, the area is public and doesn’t belong to the hotel.

6) Bar area. Cocktails were mostly made by the machine and many ingredients were missing (try ordering a virgin mojito - receive water with syrup tasting like a cheap watermelon gum, no sugar, no lime or mint). Pizza was burnt and dried. Veggiburger was basically some tomatoes and lettuce put inside two bread buns. There is a big “dj area”. Finally one day the dj came and started playing (afternoon). After 5 minutes he vanished (probably went to a different gig) and left behind a 5-song playlist on constant repeat for the whole day.
Overall there was a nice potential, but so many broken features, flaws and staff attitude left a rather negative feeling. We still had a nice mini vacation and suggest people to visit Plitvicka jezera (lakes), Zrce beach for nice beach clubs or center of Zadar for a nice walk.
