We recently traveled to Dubai and had to check out the legendary Friday Brunch Buffets (FBB) that we’ve heard so much about. After some research, we decided on Traiteur (located in the Park Hyatt hotel) due to its unique focus on French cuisine offerings (most, if not all, other Dubai FBBs typically offer a variety of cuisines). In case you’re wondering why there’s a Friday Brunch in Dubai, it’s because the regular workweek starts on Sundays and ends on Thursdays, thereby leaving Fridays and Saturdays as the weekend days.
Tip #1: there are 3 friday brunch options: non-alcoholic, sparking wine, champagne; you can check out the prices on Traiteur’s web site; we went with the non-alcoholic option because we wanted to be sober & conscious to savor every delicious bite :)
Tip #2: try to get a 12:30pm reservation; otherwise, you may have to wait for a later time in order to get a table (FBBs usually end at 4pm); although you can make reservations online through Traiteur’s web site, you can also ask your hotel concierge … we initially tried to get a 12:30pm reservation online but failed; therefore, we enlisted our hotel concierge, who was successful (thanks to Moyo at the Ritz Carlton-DIFC); either way, you’ll need a credit card to secure the reservation since cancellations and no-shows will incur a service charge
Tip #3: best way to get to Traiteur (if not a hotel guest) is to take a taxi or Uber ride; the nearest Dubai metro station is 1-2 miles away and you definitely don’t want to walk the whole way around noon time :(
Tip #4: there is a dress code (smart casual) but it looks like you can get away with a short sleeve polo shirt and shorts; closed-toed shoes are required
Even before we got to the restaurant entrance, we knew we made an excellent choice. In an area right next to the entrance door, there was a spit roast suckling pig !!!! This spectacle was only a hint of what’s to come inside Traiteur. After being seated at a table (conveniently located right next to the food stations), one of the restaurant’s management/staff generously offered to give us a tour of the food stations (many thanks to Traiteur). Needless to say, the variety and quality of the foods presented were mind-boggling !! If you want to see in-depth coverage of the entire Traiteur FBB experience, you can check out our Youtube channel (Buge Bros).
We could write pages describing what we had at Traiteur; but, to summarize, here are the food stations/offerings that really stood out for us in terms of sheer awesomeness:
+ Grilled Half Lobster (made to order); extremely popular with other guests
+ Pan Seared Scallop (made to order); extremely popular with other guests as well
+ Escargot, WOW !!!
+ Pan Seared Foie Gras … let’s repeat that again … PAN SEARED FOIE GRAS !!! … this alone should convince anyone to try out Traiteur just for the sheer decadence :)
+ Spit Roast Suckling Pig !!!
+ Dessert Station … correction —> Dessert Room !!! there’s a private dining room dedicated to just sweet desserts … we saw cakes/pies, chocolate truffles, various types of puddings, macarons, etc.; there’s even freshly made crepes
Every platter of food we had tasted fresh and exploded with flavor !! We can confidently say that Traiteur only uses the highest quality ingredients. In addition, the staff expertly cooked, grilled, roasted, pan seared, simmered every dish, with many made-to-order. There was some much other food offerings that, unfortunately, we didn’t even get a chance to try :(
Overall, the Traiteur FBB experience was one of the highlights of our Dubai trip. Traiteur certainly lived up to its awards/honors and exceeded our expectations. Many kudos and thanks to the Chef de Cuisine Dennis Koll and his entire team. In our humble opinion, Traiteur’s Friday Brunch Buffet should be a must-go destination for anyone visiting Dubai. We would definitely go back to Traiteur!
