“What you get is not what you paid for...”
Reviewed 21 February 2012

Me and my son just returned from a 4 day trip to Siem Reap. We spent two nights at the FCC Angkor. We looked at the hotel website, and were impressed by the pictures of the hotel. When we arrived, we were given one of the rooms, "Jack fruit", on the ground floor. It faces a courtyard with rooms on all sides. The room is an interconnecting room, and so the noise from the adjacent room comes through very clearly. We booked a "Grand Circuit package" that, according to the website, includes airport transfer and a one day tour of all the temples. But when we wanted to do the tour, the hotel front desk told us that we had to buy two passes, and that without those passes, the tuk tuk was not even allowed to take us inside the temple areas. That means that the "tour" is not really a tour, and not even a transfer. We found this a misrepresentation to say the least. When we were finally taken out in the hotel tuk tuk, the driver kept discouraging us to go to visit some of the temples that were further away, when they were not, for example, Ta Som was only about 40 minutes by tuk tuk but he made it seemed like impossibly far.The rest of the stay was ok, we did like the pool and the staff near the pool, and the room cleaning staff are great in keeping the rooms cleaned. We enjoyed the rest of the stay until we had to be transferred back to the airport when we were told by the driver upon arriving at the airport we had to pay for the "free transfer". Lucikly the driver had a handphone so I could talked to the hotel explaining to her that a transfer was included in the rate and that I was not paying. She finally agreed. I tipped the driver anyway.

Room Tip: Do NOT choose a connecting room

This small hotel is in a great location by the river, not far from the main temples (e.g., Angkor Wat), close to the central market and tourist district, and near the Palace and gardens across from the palace. Two of the other much more expensive hotels are also just a few blocks away (i.e., Raffles and the Victoria Hotel) making it easy and fun to walk over for happy hour in one of their slick bars. It’s easy to walk or take a tuk-tuk from here to anywhere you’d want to go in or around Siem Reap.

The rooms at FCC are comfortable with all the modern conveniences (e.g., wifi, in room safe, AC, etc.), and services offered by the hotel are perfect for seeing the sights and enjoying your stay in Siem Reap. They can arrange cars/tuk-tuks, tours, etc. Food and beverages here are good, and some of the offerings on the menu are actually fabulous. The small hotel pool makes for a nice spot to chill out after visiting temples, and the spa, shops and gallery on premise are all refreshing breaks from the “spas” and shops in the center of town that all seem to sell the same stuff.

I’d stay here again without hesitation. It’s great value for the money. And the staff were all lovely, trying very hard to meet or exceed their guests’ expectations.

Room Tip: If you can, avoid the rooms closer to the reception area/office since you'll have guests coming...

I've stayed at the FCC in Siem Reap a number of times and I'm rarely disappointed. The rooms are well appointed with comfortable beds and nice bathrooms. The setting of the hotel is fantastic, right in the middle of things. the development around the FCC is good as there are a number of interesting shops and art galleries. Food and drink is solid too. The pool is a little small but perfectly nice.

I'm surprised the FCC isn't higher up the list of great places to stay in Siem Reap as it's a wonderful hotel.

We had a suite with the most enormous bathroom I think I've ever seen in a hotel. Room was also large with nice touches such as lots of oil burners and incence sticks and lovely smellies in the bathroom.

Beautiful saltwater pool in a peaceful setting. You'd never guess you were on a main road.

Breakfast was great and it was a real bonus to be able to have it delivered to the room at no extra charge, especially as we had an early start on the day we left.

Lots of tempting (but pricey) shops on site and it was fantastic to have a drink on the terrace bar in the evening, especially during happy hour.

I don't think the hotel's website does it justice, it is really much nicer than it looks online.

Really recommend this place, we enjoyed our time here embracing our innwr Somerset Maugham's!

Room Tip: Splash out on a suite, it's really worth it.

Travelled with Creative Escapes: Photography Holiday to Siem Reap, Cambodia, July 2011 This was a perfect combination - great holiday, great bunch of people and expert photography tuition, all based in a fabulous location at the FCC Angkor Hotel in Siem Reap. The itinerary was well planned with lots of excursions to discover off beat & interesting locations & subjects; as well as the iconic Angkor Wat complex which didn't disappoint. With a well balanced mix of informal group tutorials, reviews & individual sessions worked in over the days, it was a big step up to a new level of photographic skills. Perfect location for exploring all the photographic genres with a wealth of opportunities for endless shooting. The free time, lovely pool and spa & evenings sampling great food in a range of places created a lively social ambience amongst the group and a whole lot of new friends. All in all, great value, great fun & highly recommended
