This is a large hotel that is very well run. Rooms are normal sized, comfortable, though beds may be too firm for some. A/C is adequate in the rooms, but common spaces tend to be warm. Staff is very friendly but English is limited for some - load Google Translate before you go, that worked wonders. This is not a surprise since there were few non-Chinese guests when I was there. There are several nice conference rooms, including a large one in a separate building. Breakfast is an incredible buffet that has both western and Chinese offerings - you won't believe the number of choices if you are used to American buffet. For my visit, the buffet was included in the room price..
The hotel is steps from a major bus stop and a 5-10 minute walk from the Xiamen Botanical Gardens. If you enter before 7 am ,the Gardens are free and well worth a visit. There are several good restaurants within a 15 minute walk on Huyuan Road.
While I did not use it, the hotel offers a shortfall bus to the airport. Only shortfall - there does not seem to be a hotel bar, though beer and wine are available through room service.
I was in Building 8 and cannot speak to Building 5.More
