Walking into the hotel we were excited of things to come, how quickly this turned to huge disappointment. As soon as we entered the reception area, a man (not in uniform) took my case from me and told me to go with him as they were going to book me in to their sister hotel and off he went outside. I followed, explaining that I had no idea who he was, despite repeatedly asking him to identify himself, and that I was booked in here at the King Tut. He put my bag down and asked, quite angrily, what was wrong, why didn't I want to go with him. I took my bag and went back to reception, waited my turn, and booked in, only then was I told that this guy was a bellboy and was indeed taking us to our 'free upgrade' next door, same complex, The Sphynx Hotel. When I expressed my concerns, the guy at reception just looked at me and blankly said ''well, that's who he is''. Not a good start.
The room, however, was nice, although if this was a five star upgrade as we were told, then they have a lot to learn about star ratings. Our room attendant was very clean & thorough, nothing was to much for him and he made our stay a lot more welcoming.
The shop keepers on the complex, especially the shops by the outdoor pools, were quite forceful in trying to get you in and make you buy things, again becoming quite offended when you declined, which ended up with us walking the other way around the complex in order to avoid them. On the beachfront, it was no better, constantly being pestered by people selling trips or a massage or excursions ( our so called Rep, we saw him once, was only interested in selling a coach trip to Luxor !!! and was not too bothered by our other concerns), however, saying that, if you can find Ashraf, then he is very polite and helpful and does not pressure you.
The 'food' was repetitive and generally cold & all inclusive seemed to be non existent as meal times were a free for all, push and shove affair.
The whole lot seems to cater for the large majority of Russians and if you were one of the few British there, then good luck.
