“Bird Watchers' paradise”

Sultanpur National Park Bird Sanctuary
Reviewed 19 October 2017

Professional bird watchers will perhaps better, but Sultanpur may rank only 2nd after Bharatpur in areas around Delhi for bird watching. Thankfully, Haryana government has separated the resort (which has nice lawns and an average restaurant) from the sanctuary. The sanctuary is really a natural environ, a large water body with bund around it. And we saw a virtual bird paradise..we could see Painted Stork, Black headed Ibis, black ibis, black crane, wooly headed crane, purple heron, grey hornbill, kingfishers, cormorants, owls, snake bird, ballards, geese, coots and plenty of other water birds. One could spend hours there. You could also see some deer species. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO CROWD THE PLACE IF YOU FEEL BORED WITH BIRDS AND ANIMALS. There is no urban kind of entertainment there.

Dirty place. No water. Stagnating pools, long grass, dilapidated trees. No sight of any birds. Wasteful visit. Can be made a beautiful tourist spot if the state and centre wishes. Called to be a National bird sanctuary.

Sultanpur Lake (Natinal Park) is Bird Sanctuary for over 250 species of resident & migratory birds and is located on Gurgaon- Farrukh Nagar road (via Chandu Village). It should be around 18 kms from Rajiv Chowk Gurgaon and 40 kms from New Delhi Airport. The Sanctuary is spread over an area of 350 Acres. It requires a minimum of 4-5 hours to cover the Bird sanctuary.
This place has numerous small islands where the birds make their nest in the trees. It is the home of migratory birds which comes from all over the Asia and Europe. Best time to visit the National Park is in the winter season (December to February) preferably from 7am to 4pm.
It has a resort for tourist to stay. Bird watchers from Japan, South Korea and other parts of the world frequent this Sanctuary. It also has Guest Houses & a Restaurant cum Bar managed by the Haryana government tourism department. As the climate is pleasant during winters, many Families frequent this place for picnic as the sanctuary had huge gardens
I have enjoyed celebrating my daughter’s birthday thrice in succession at this place with a team of 50 to 60 family and friends.

I would say it is “Worth going”…..

Sultanpur national Park is filled with different types of birds. One can find very rare birds here. There are other animals as well like deer and monkeys.
