“Sad the wall paintings are not restored.”

The temples were locked well after the sign stated they should be open. Stupas all crumbling outside. Relatively expensive entrance fee, obviously no used for restoring the once stunning wall paintings. All together found it drab, touristy and disappointing. Not worth the detour.

This is one of the oldest monasteries and is situated in Alchi village. Passing through the village there are small stalls selling antics and accessories and then the way leads to the main monastry. It is a beautiful arrangement that engrosses you with its positive vibes. The river flowing behind the monastry makes it a divine place in the lap of nature.

The market is lovely right outside the monastery and the murals are certainly the best in all of Ladakh.

A beautiful monastery, worth the trip. Do not miss it if you visit Leh. A sense of peace pervades the whole area and you learn a lot about Buddhism. This is one of the oldest Monasteries in Leh.
