Owner description: Jodhpur is a city in the Thar Desert of the northwest Indian state of Rajasthan. Its 15th-century Mehrangarh Fort is a former palace that’s now a museum, displaying weapons, paintings and elaborate royal palanquins (sedan chairs). Set on on a rocky outcrop, the fort overlooks the walled city, where many buildings are painted the city’s iconic shade of blue.Explore Jodhpur holidays and discover the best time and places to visit. | Mighty Mehrangarh, the muscular fort that towers over the Blue City of Jodhpur,

The fort is definitely #1 place to visit in Jodhpur. The style is different than forts in Jaipur or Agra, because the influence of Mogols was weaker and the architecture follows hindu, not muslim tradition. Keep your head up and be amazed by carved walls of the fort-palace when walking through the numerous courtyards. Look at rich chambers.
Advices:
- use lift to go up
- do not forget to go to the museum shop - the quality of goods is much higher than any other place and the shop is organized in western style!

A must see site. Not as lavish as some Indian forts but worth the trip. Great views of the blue city and a lift to the top so you can walk down at leisure - useful in the heat.

The fort of Jodhpur, Mehrangarh Fort was build by Rajput rulers of Jodhpur, who started building it by early 15th century. It was built on top of a rocky hill, which provides natural defenses to it walls. Mehrangarh fort is one of the most impressive fort i have ever seen, it is well maintained, clean and well organized. There is a museum inside the fort as well, which is included in the entry ticket. I must say the museum in Mehrangarh fort have one of the largest collections on display and its inside tour is well organized.

It costs 100 Rupees for Indians (500 for foreign nationals with audio guide included). There is a restaurant inside the fort (though near the entry point) in case you want to have the lunch once you are done visiting the fort. The entry inside the fort is very steep, so in case you have difficulties in climbing up then i would recommend taking the lift, which would cost more (around 50 per side). Though i preferred walking as i do not wanted to miss passing through the amazing gates of the Fort. I must say its quite steep and i would have been impossible for anyone to ram these gates at this much inclination. Once you are at the top level then you can go to the museum, which would take around two hours. After that you can move further to explore other part of the fort( which are opened for public). Some sections of the fort are still under renovation, though it would not lessen the charm of the fort. From the top you can see the complete view of Jodhpur city, and even from few points you'll get the picture perfect shots of blue city.

Mehrangarh fort is well connected by the road. If you are coming by the taxis then it would stop around 100 meters before the fort, then its a steep climb from there to the fort entrance. But if you are coming via your own vehicle then you can drive right to the top till the fort entrance. There is a parking for private cars only at the top. I visited by my own vehicle.

Very interesting fort but allow plenty of time so you can pace yourself and take everything in. Architecture very interesting. We were part of a tour so only able to have a short time there which was a shame. Take a guide
