“Amazing Stay”

We just came back from a 5 night stay at Villa Leana.

Supada, Kadek and Istiani are a amazing team! Friendly, accommodating and welcoming. They have definitely added more joy to our holiday.

We planned to have only 1 dinner in the villa but ended up having 3 hearty and extremely satisfied dinner. The food were great and I am definitely not exaggerating by saying that the quality is so much better than many popular restaurants in Bali. Chilli crabs, grilled snapper, prawns and pork ribs.... Oh gosh! We missed them so much. In fact, we repeated the same dishes on our last night. We even requested Kadek to prepared extra sambal chillis so that we could bring back home. In total, we paid 2.6 million including tips for the 3 dinners for 8 pax.

The villa is as seen in the pictures. Clean and spacious. Comfortable beds.

Tom and Rene were very patience and helpful during the enquiry and booking process.

Cons:-
- crockcoaches were spotted in the master bathroom for 2 consecutive nights.
- aircon in the rooms in the upper level especially the twin room is not cool. The couples staying in these rooms were said to sweat during the night.
- water pressure not strong and insufficient heated water if more than 1 bathroom is being used at the same time.
- On 2nd early morning, there was a heavy passing shower and ants started falling on the bed from the ceiling in the twin room on level 2. Not sure if there is any ant nest in the roof. Have feedback to Supada and no further ants were spotted on the bed later.
- Insufficient electricity to support the power usage in the villa hence the lights in the toilets keep flickering especially at night. This was scary.
- The location is really far from Kuta area after factor in the traffic jam. 1 way easily took more than an hour. This villa is great for relaxing if you planned to stay most time in the villa.
- There is a great view to see the horizon but do note that the view right in front of the villa is a construction site. Not sure if it is still active though. But there were some renovation going on in the villas next door hence was quite noisy and irritating during the day.
- Quantity for breakfast is a bit little for 8 adults. We only get to have 1 strip of bacon, some bread and eggs. Do feel free to request if required so that they can purchased more. But this will probably be charged to your expenses.

I would greatly recommend to family with children and intend to stay in the villa most of the time. For first timer to Bali, you may want to check out this owner's villa in Seminyak instead.

Management Response
22 Apr 2013
Thank you so much for taking the time to review our wonderful villa and we are so glad that you enjoyed your stay.

You did though raise some concerns which really worried us.

We spoke to our manager immediately after your review to find out what happened as insects had never before been an issue. Our manager told us that when you stayed there had been torrential rain and at the time we had gaps between the rafters and the tops of the walls (many villas in Bali are constructed this way), and as the rooms had lights on, several insects, attracted by the lights, took refuge inside the villa during the storms. This was the reason for the insects, and also the reason for the issues with the air conditioning "not working" properly.

Rene and I stayed ourselves at Villa Leana within a couple of weeks of your review to carry out our regular inspection of Villa Leana, and we hired contractors to block off the gaps between the rafters and the walls, so this should never be an issue again, so thank you very much for identifying this for us.

On water, as you probably know there are issues on water throughout Bali at the moment, and we do suffer more than most as we are at the very top of probably the tallest hill on the Bukit, which means we often have no direct supply of water from the government. We have however added rainwater catchment; doubled the capacity of our water tanks; and doubled the solar heating panels on the roof as well, and also have a contract to bring in water by truck every day that we have no government supply. This means that we will always have water for guests, but it also means that if we have large groups of guests, and they have baths at the same time, then we can sometimes struggle, so our apologies for that.

The trip to Kuta does depend on traffic, and at certain times of the day there is significant "commuter" traffic to and from Denpasar past the airport, and if you are unlucky yes it can take an hour to get to Kuta, however the usual time really is only 25 minutes - even with the current road works that are being undertaken near to the airport.

Also our apologies for the building works. You were unlucky as our neighbour was installing a small kids pool at his villa, and the works took about a week, which unfortunately coincided directly with your stay. There is no works occurring now.

Finally I am not sure what happened at breakfast. Supada our manager said that he always provides at least two pieces of bacon, and that guests are free to ask for more.

In any case thank you again for bringing your concerns to our attention. We do aim to provide the best service possible at our villas in Bali, and feedback such as yours really does help us to constantly improve what we offer to guests at our villas.

All the best
Tom & Rene

“Great villa, lovely staff, bit out of the way”
Reviewed 17 October 2012 for a stay in September 2012

We very much enjoyed our stay at Villa Leana - the staff are lovely, great cooks, took very good care of us and we felt confident to leave our children in their care. The villa is modern and well equipped and was very clean, with good a/c.

As others have commented, the villa is a bit out of the way as it is a cab ride to the beach etc. This wasn't really a big issue for us as with very young children we were not out that much, but with older children this might be an issue.

Overall we had a great time and would return.
