Where do I begin... I stayed here for 10 nights with my family on our trip around Indonesia. For the rest of my family it was their second visit, I was a first timer.

Check in, reception area, help with bags etc. Was a smooth process, staff were very friendly and the "reception" area (which is massive) is very nice, has oceanview and also had three men playing some traditional music at the time we arrived.

The room itself was clean, bathroom was very nice and having a balcony is convenient for me as a smoker. Room service was very good, and didn't even take the money I left out as a tip. Too bad for them, but it shows the staff are honest.

The hotel has three restaurants, out- and indoor dining available and all of them have delicious food. Prices are a bit higher than restaurants outside of the hotel which is to be expected. There's also a pool bar available. The area in general is very well kept, the grass, plants and hedges etc are looked after well and the area in general is just beautiful.

Breakfast is included and is by far the best breakfast offered at any hotel (ever), has great staff, an omelette station, noodle station and probably 50 different things to choose from. There's also vegetarian options and pork bacon available.

All things considered I absolutely loved my time here and can't wait for my next stay!

Unfortunately I have missed out on staying at the Kartika Plaza, as I made the mistake of trying to email the hotel directly (rather than just booking through their official website).

I liaised with a number of different staff members in the reservations department and provided all information that was asked of me, (much more than you'd have to provide if you booked through the automated portal on the website) yet I still couldn't secure a booking.

All up, 7 emails were exchanged to no avail - in the end I became impatient and gave up the process; unfortunately due to it being peak season and my booking being at short notice, I was unable to secure a booking online (my own fault - I know).

I booked 2 other hotels for the same trip, one in Jimbaran and one in Nusa Dua, by directly emailing the hotels (rather than going through the website's booking portal), with no issues at all.

I'm really disappointed that I've missed out on the opportunity of staying at Kartika Plaza, as it looks like an amazing hotel; but I became so frustrated with the process that I decided it was not worth the hassle.

You never know - the management might read this in time and find me a room - which I'd be happy to take; but given my experience so far - I don't like my chances.

I booked my room direct through the Discovery website in AUD (and even showed hotel staff that my booking was in AUD). When I checked in I was charged at a US rate and therefor overcharged $300 extra. When questioning the manager, she admitted there was a problem with the website but would not give our money back. I ended up paying over $270/night. The whole hotel is overpriced. There was a blood stain on our bed sheet and the phone did not work. The only good thing about this hotel is the breakfast. I will never stay at the discovery kartika again!

Room tip: Book at a different hotel!

I love love LOVE this place. It is more than just a hotel, it has so much character and the staff are so friendly and helpful, I have stayed here many times and will definitely be back! I like to think of it as my home away from home. The house keeping team were so friendly and amiable with any requests. The recreation team always had activities going on which I enjoyed participating in such as water volleyball, water polo, water basketball, water aerobics, billiards, table tennis, beach volleyball, soccer as well as other activities such as cooking classes, cocktail making classes and more. The breakfast was delicious and all the staff at the Pond for breakfast were so friendly and helpful and everyone always had a smile on their faces.
Overall my holiday was amazing and I couldn't thank all the staff all around the resort enough for everything they all did. Can't wait to come back!! Thank you!!

Hey, it may pay for it, but as in everything you pay for what you get. The hotel may be old, but you can't tell as the amenities are excellent.
While being 5 stars, it didn't feel elitist, in the staff made us feel welcome and valued. Would highly recommend it, and the food WOW!
World class and not overly priced.
