Most locals know burat wangi as a place, but not necessarily this factory. Looked out for the sign n climbed up the slop. I missed the first left-turn immediately uphill and mistakenly walked deep into the open paddy fields, I'm glad I did that..rewarded with a picturesque view!

Back to soap place - great range of products in a traditional, run-down and small factory. Bought over 30 items with great values. Standard soaps cost usd1+ and special aromas usd 3-4. For self use, may consider the loose cut pack for usd2+ u get 2-3 bath soaps and 2-3 hand soups, of course irregular shapes and smaller than standard sizes.

My driver told me this place is famous among jap tourist, as its owner is Japanese.

Overall, excellent all natural soaps, but even more stunning scenery!

When you see the big white statue facing you go straight around it-not a hard right. Then the road snakes for about 150 meters. The sign is up on the right and there's this lil road up a hill(only big enough for a scooter to drive on) turn right there. The view when up there is amazing.
P.S. You're gonna have to find the rest of the way on your own
P.S.S. I tried this soap last night in my room. WOW!

I stumbled upon a mention of this place in a Japanese guide brochure left at the lobby of the hotel I stayed at and did some research on Tripadvisor and found only Japanese language reviews. With a little help from google translate, it seemed like an interesting stop on our shopping itinerary.

Basically, this is a small rural soap factory that has a tiny retail shop open to the public. It is located well off the beaten path, our driver had to ask for several directions and called the company in order to find the walking path (cars have no access) We walked down the narrow path and it was super rural and not developed, a 360 degree turn from the tourist shops in Ubud. We had trouble finding the place, but find it we did.

After taking our shoes off, we went up a flight of stairs and were led into a small room that contained samples of the soaps available for sale. Maybe 20-30 items in total, just displayed on simple wooden furniture. You could see the workers in other room making and shaping the soap bars for sale, no machinery--it was done by hand.

The soaps use coconut oil for saponification and there are nice exotic fragrances that scent these soaps.

A nice feature was that each bar of soap was marked by its date of manufacture and date of expiry. All of the bars for sale were made in the previous 2 weeks.

Costs varied from $0.50 to $2.50 depending on the item, but most were $1.25

We bought a bunch and after using some back at home, they are really wonderful and well well worth the money.

Ubud is full of shops selling soaps, oils etc, very pretty and touristy but it was nice to find such a simple place and getting the product direct from the source.

Would make great presents!
