We had the pleasure of staying at Royal Kamuela in Ubud and I must say that we have stayed in many fine 5 star places all over the world and to us the Royal Kamuela has been our favourite to date. All of the staff there are very helpful and friendly. You are even pampered with your own butlers if required or you can just lay back and enjoy the amazing private, peaceful surroundings. This would be the only place where we have not wanted to leave, we could of stayed there forever. We will certainly be back!

Room Tip: All the rooms are excellent

We paid S$ 559 with Reebonz City promotion a few months back. This is inclusive of a 3D2N stay in a 1 bedroom villa with private pool, daily breakfast, airport transfers, welcome drinks, 2-hr spa for each person, flower bath, honeymoon cake and a 12-hr chauffeur service.

The liason with their villa agent (Villas International)in Singapore was a challenge though and to conclude, an unpleasant experience.

It is a quiet and exquisite villa with 12 units only. What you see on their website is what you will get. Beautiful room with cosy, luxurious bedding, spacious bathroom with rain shower and big bathtub good for 2.

DVD player provided and list of movies are available upon request. Bring own bath salts for the bathtub as its not provided. I recommend you to bring your own toiletries as the shower gel and lotion as personally, I do not like the smell of the shower gel and lotion.

Insect repellent spray is provided. You may want to request for in room spa treatment as the spa is not full fledge with only 2 treatment room (1 single room and 1 couple room). Otherwise, there are plenty of spa options nearby (e.g Sang Spa which is located outside the villa which has good reviews from tripsdvisor,we did not have time to try but will definitely try on our next visit).

We have in-room breakfast for both days. We have to choose and pick our choice of breakfast (International, Belgium, Japanese, etc) before end of the day (the staff who do the turn-down service in the evening will collect it and pass it to the kitchen for prepatation). Their breakfast was very filling. Between 4p to 5p, the Villa also serve afternoon snacks. We had cakes on our day 1.

Do not leave food outside the bedroom if you do not wish to be visited by monkeys. We only saw 1 passerby monkey 10mins after our check-in (maybe he just want to welcome us).

Staff are friendly and very accommodating. Location is great with the famous dirty duck restaurant nearby and lots of other options to offer for dining (e.g. Cinta Grill, Wayang Cafe, etc.) and shopping (e.g. Pygmees, Polo Ralph Lauren, arts, wood crafts, etc.).

The Villa also provides transport (Suzuki APVs) to bring you to the restaurants/anywhere nearby, and once done, you can also call for them to send you back. And this is free-of-charge!

For the 12hrs chauffeur service which was bundled,we visited Elephant Safari Park at Taro(admission+30mins elephant ride for U$54.50 per pax),volcano mountain at Kitamani+buffet lunch at one of the restaurants (paid S$15 per pax but the spread and food quality are not worth the price plus we had company from friendly houseflies!!!) and rice paddyfield (nice photoshoot) on our way back to hotel.

We did not consume the 12hrs in a day as the tour guide (Mr. Nyoman) proposed to us to visit Jimbarang Bay the next day after dropping us at The Westin Nusa Dua.As it will take 2.5hrs to reach Jimbarang Bay from Ubud. We agreed that it was a better idea to go the next day as the distance from Nusa dua to Jimbarang Bay is only 20mins(save us a lot of time on the road). However,we were very disappointed after he dropped us off at our next destination and wanted to charge us Rp200,000 for this 20-min ride to Jimbaran Bay.

Tourist, please take note of such guides. Even though some villas/hotels bundled extras like 12-hour/half-day chauffeur service, please ensure that:
1) the petrol is included.
2) the guide and driver's meals, mineral water, etc are included.
3) I read through 52-pages of our local forum and noticed that a typical 12-hr chauffeured service costs around Rp220,000.
4) During the journey, the guide might try to sway you off from your original plan. So you need to do proper planning and research.
5) At times, the guide will ask if you mind visiting his friend's coffee plantation, spa, etc and keep stressing that you have no obligation to purchase anything. If time is not at your side, or you do not feel the need, just reject him politely.

We bought drinks, crackers and durian during our drive for both the guide and driver and planned to pay for their services and never thought that at the end, he just left us after dropping us off at Westin Resort, where we need to find our ways to go to Jimbaran Bay for the scenic sunset and sumptuous dinner. Read my other review on Westin Resort Nusa Dua for my 4th Day in Bali.

Although this chauffeured service was disappointing, but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and great service at Royal Kamuela. Even though there are only 12 villas, some of the villas are located at areas where everyone has to walked past. For those who are looking for ultimate privacy and serenity, you may want to avoid them.

We enjoyed ourselves so much that on day 2, we almost wanted to cancel our plan of moving to the next resort at Nusa Dua. We have to move out sadly on our third day as we are not able to cancel our room in Nusa Dua after reading the fine print (payment has already been charged to my credit card).

We do not mind coming back again in the future. Its simply heavenly for us as we achieved our objectives of spending intimate and quality time together, relaxing ourselves and yet, able to walk out for some shopping when we feel like it. This is one of the trip where we did not shop much nor buy any souvenirs as we were already loaded with great memories :)

Room Tip: Even though there are only 12 villas, some of the villas are located at areas where everyone has to walked past to get to their villa. For those who are looking for ultimate privacy and serenity, you may want to avoid them.

We stayed here in August 2011 and had a great time. Lovely rooms , very clean and great breakfast. Staff very accommodating, close to shops, dining and sights. We had our own pool and it was very private, except for monkeys who came to join us in morning. No trouble with them at all. We will come again.

We chose to stay at these villas because we have stayed in another Aston property that was great and really wanted to try out their new place in Ubud. These villas were only built about a year ago so they didn't have many reviews on trip advisor yet but I can assure you they are absolutely perfect and it'll only be a matter of time before they're one of the top rated places to stay.
The villas are tucked away off monkey forest road right near bars, shops and restaurants but you'd never know it once you walk down to reception. Each villa is incredibly private, they have taken great care to ensure none of them are over looked and they are very peaceful. The decor is what I would call contemporary-modern-Balinese. The bedroom is basically a glass on 2 sides and looks over the pool which gives it a great sense of space and connection to the outside. The bed was one of the most comfortable hotel beds I've ever stayed in and the bathroom was enormous with a real feel of luxury. The bath and indoor / outside shower was also fantastic. The villa had everything you could possibly need including a really good wifi connection. The pool is a great size for a one bed villa - definitely bigger than average.
The staff were very friendly and cheerful happy to help. The breakfast was really good, great choice and very tasty. Having stayed in Ubud several times one of the best things going for this place is it's location. Everything is on your door step and with in walking distance - including livley bars, quite restaurants, markets, rice paddies and monkeys. Many hotels in Ubud are on the outskirts and require a shuttle to take you in and out of town. Here you can walk everywhere and we only used the transport provided once.
I really can't find any faults with this villa at all. You can't go wrong if you chose Royal Kamulea for your holiday, I'm sure we'll be back!

Room Tip: If you have mobility problems ask for a villa near the reception as there are a few steps to navigate and the villas are quite spaced out.

The villa is beautiful what you see in the picture is what you get.Size is just right , not too big or too small.I love how they blend the deco with different shades of colours in the room.outside the pool area, there are enough plants to give the oaisa feeling. The bath area had both indoor and outdoor shower not excluding a great bath tude for 2. This villa is really a Great place for couple.
