This is dining as it should be. Have not been there in a number of years. Where have I been? It was a favorite, a drink at the bar or small cocktail lounge, and then a leisurely dinner. Nothing has changed and that is a good thing. From the front entrance, to the bar and cocktail lounge; the banquettes and white table cloths; the miles and miles of wood paneling gleaming in very pretty lighting fixtures and all dressed up for the holidays.
Good friend and I decided to have a leisurely holiday lunch. On a whim we chose La Serre. Could not have been a better choice. Difficult to decide on the menu items. We noted that this was a spot for a good business lunch. Subdued and private. And, oh the food: we both had a very good glass of wine/ a top California Chardonnay and a lovely French Pinot Noir; the Salad Maison, a bed of field greens with a warm bleu cheese and bacon dressing. Yes, warm dressing! Ooooh. Then a perfectly cooked lightly blackened salmon with a beurre blanc sauce, risotto, and crisp haricot verts, fresh squashes, a perfect medley. The service was excellent, providing a measured pace as we told our server we wished for a long lunch. Dessert was the only so so in an otherwise spectacular meal. FYI: Albany has come up with a very creative way to park: we pulled up right in front, used a credit card in a standing small black kiosk, paid $2 for 1 hour 45 minutes, put the printed parking ticket on our dash and in the front door in minutes. Forgot to mention several diners enjoyed the Bistro Menu, lighter fare but not lacking in beautiful preparation.
