We stopped here for a nice dinner while staying in downtown Albany. It was close to our hotel so we gave it a shot. The prices aren't cheap but are actually very reasonable considering the high quality food and service. We started with the seafood soup which I believe was a daily special. It was outstanding. My wife and I both ordered a filet mignon for our entrée and they were excellent. They included a salad, rolls, potato and vegetables. Our server was very friendly and did a great job. If we lived in the area we would definitely return.

I made reservations for 6 here for our sons college graduation dinner. We were told it was one of the best restaurants in Albany. We were so very disappointed from shortly after we arrived. We were quickly seated and there were few in the dining room as it was 530 on a Friday. Our drinks were brought to us. Then we waited 20 minutes to have or food order taken. No one came to our table, so I went and asked for our wait staff to take our order. Our order was taken and it took an additional 25 minutes to be served. We had to ask for drink refills. Of our 6 entrees, each priced over $45, 2 were good, 4 steaks were over cooked rather than medium rare. Service was so very poor. Not at all impressed.

My brother suggested Jack's for our Mom's 90th birthday. She wanted a family dinner. We reserved a private room on the first floor for 20 people and chose the private dining menu. The evening was perfect ! Ed did a great job in helping me to make menu decisions and setting timing for the appetizers and meals. The service was flawless. The two servers were obviously experienced and very familiar with the menu and drink options. The room was quiet and private. The food was beautifully presented and excellent. Appetizers were passed by the servers and all were excellent and well-timed so that we were not rushed. The salad was fresh and attractive. We chose lobster tails, salmon, fish trio and Steak Diane and all were beautifully presented, hot and delicious. Cheescake with fresh strawberries and blueberries was a perfect ending to the meal. Several people commented that they had never been to a better party. So happy that we chose Jack's Oyster House !

Expensive for really bad food. While the aphmoshere was great and the service fine the food was bad. Send back because a few plates were cold and when they brought it back it was just as cold. Oysters were small. Family of 8 celebrating a graduation all were disappointed in their meal. We paid a lot of money for not so good food. Will not return.

Right around corner from hotel so we tried it. We mainly had starters. Oysters were really good but pricey at $34 a dozen. Must be going rate in area but double what I'm used to paying. Chopped salad was OK but was overpowered by the dressing. One in our party had Salmon and thought it was excellent. Great service. Perhaps we would have enjoyed more we were having traditional entrees instead of just starters. Would probably go again if situation arose.
