The Dutch House

I stayed for two nights at The Dutch House while attending a wedding in Galle. It was 12 years since I had stayed here last - just after the 2004 Tsunami. Nothing has change with The Dutch House - happily. Geoffrey Dobbs and his friendly helpful but unobtrusive staff make you very welcome - and the rooms themselves are spacious, thoughtfully furnished with heritage in mind - a joy to relax in. I was lucky enough to stay in the 'Ballroom' which as it's name suggests is especially roomy - my ideal bedroom ! All rooms have a bath and shower - what better than to linger in a Dutch heritage bath! The food is beautifully prepared - and breakfast can be served outside your room whenever you awake - a great help the morning after a wedding party! A well situated swimming pool which you can swim lengths in or just relax - quite sufficient to meet the needs of guests staring in the three guest rooms in The Dutch House . Croquet is also available and there is plenty of reading material available in each room. The serenic Sun House - also owned by Geoffrey - is across the road - and Dinner is served there rather than The Dutch House . Galle Fort is 5 minutes away by tuk tuk for Rupees 350. If you want to stay somewhere exceptional come to The Dutch House - you will not want to leave!

Faultless, the most wonderful stay. The property is magical and so convenient for trips to the Fort and the beaches. You will want to come back - we do! Although minutes from bustling Galle it is very peaceful.

The food at the sister property across the road Sun House was very good - limited choice but a great Sri Lanka curry.

We were looked after very well by all the staff at both properties who couldn't have smiled more.

Wifi is the quickest so far on our trip.

I am sitting by the pool. In the shade of a mango tree. A small troupe of monkeys are having their lunch in the tree. Cautious of us so staying in the tree. 2 tiny babies. It's 33 degrees.
We slept in a four poster bed. In a beautiful room, solid wood windows and shutters. A lounge area and huge bathroom.
Super Sri Lankan curry for supper.
Breakfast on the porch.
4 rooms. Only 2 other people here.

This was our first night stay after a long travel to Sri Lanka. A lovely very well looked after small hotel, each room was unique and furnished beautifully. We have 3 of the 4 rooms so took over the place really, the pool is down a level in the garden and gives you a view of the foliage and hills down into Galle. We had lunch here and then headed into Galle. On our return from Galle we decided to eat at the Sun House which is the adjoining hotel/restaurant. This was a set menu and was delicious, great flavours and friendly service. Would stay here again.

Room Tip: stay at the dutch house eat at sun house

The staff at this place are amazingly helpful. Colonial style if a bit tired. Rooms large and quirky and look out for the odd small non threatening lizard. Overall a very relaxing experience with good food at Sun House next door. great pool. Only a short walk to the town and fort
