At first glance this hotel looks reasonably opulent but once inside it has a dated and gloomy ambience.
The reception area is double height & could be quite grand but work is required to reposition some of the mismatched granite panels. Additional colour would work well, maybe some gilt boarders to offset the grey/black granite. Reception staff are competant and professional and with a little coaxing very friendly.
Guest rooms are a good size and my aircon worked efficiently. The bathroom was in need of renovation but otherwise clean & functional with hot water at all times. The 'House Maids' were exceptionally fast & efficient and among the friendliest I've encountered.
Guests checking in or at unsocial hours were a problem during my stay and woke me very early on the second morning., Korean I think.
The breakfast was adequate but uninspiring and the glass windows to the dining area were in desperate need of cleaning.
The hotel lists a swimming pool in its facilities, however, venturing from the lift on floor 3 and then down a dingy stairway to the pool, it's instantly obvious this is somewhere no guest can actually enjoy themselves. With no views, walls all around and a total absence of ambience and style the hotel would be advised to lose the pool and use the space for something more practical.
Generally, with some vibrant colours to corridoors and room doorways, plus a few carefully coordiated pictures or murals, this hotel would be far more welcoming and leave a better impression on guests.
Smaller and better hotels exist close by and to stay 'in the game' The Diamond Plaza needs to improve its appearance and to do this the management need a rolling schedule of maintenance and decoration.
