We had looked around the hotel whilst staying at the Delphin Imperial in August (2016 and 2017) so had a good idea beforehand. We arrived after midnight only to be told our room category (standard side sea view) was not available and they would upgrade us to a sea view just for the night and then we had to change in the morning. This is the last thing we needed at that time of night. We argued but the night clerk just told us to check again in the morning but of course we could not unpack. In the morning we did have to change rooms so we spent the entire morning messing around changing rooms. The hotel at this point told us the room was available if we wanted to pay for the upgrade. You'd think after already spending 28 nights in a Delphin Hotel they could have waved this but no!
The holiday improved until I fell ill with diarrhoea 48hrs after arriving (first time in 15 visits to Turkey). My daughter then suffered sickness and diarrhoea the following night. For 3 days 2 of us were not well and could barely eat or drink anything and could not sleep because the rooms were too hot and the air conditioning was not working. We told the hotel 3 times that the air conditioning was not working but they did nothing. We could not open the balcony door for air as we then got road noise and woken up by dogs barking (even with the door shut).
If there had not been room problems or sickness I would have rated the hotel highly as the facilities are good (though it could benefit from more indoor bar space as in the evenings the bars were very busy and drinks took a long time).
We asked for fruit and wine service 5 times but never received it. Terrible! Each time they told us it would be sent up but never was. I hate to think how long room service would have taken if it had turned up at all.
I think in the end it was the entertainment team that saved our holiday. They were great, one of the best teams we have encountered and there were only 5 of them. They were friendly with excellent language skills and interacted with all guests especially those that took part in the activities. I would also like to thank Ali in Guest relations who went in the extra mile in helping us with our requests (restaurant bookings, late check out etc).
Not sure how I feel about returning at this point. I like the Delphin concept but I'm really concerned about the management here as they don't seem to care, the rest of the staff are good.
