Used to be the house of one of Colonia's Gobernor's, so its historically interesting from the start
Very well placed, in the historic district, right next to the church, this is a nice place to stay if you are planning a sightseeing trip.
The room I stayed was nice, but the entire building could use some work. The bed consisted on two single beds joined together, which is something I despise, but it had an extra single bed as well right next to it. Service is good and staff is friendly. Breakfast is decent but nothing fancy. It has a pool, rather small, and a nice small yard as well.
Overall, its a nice place for a short trip around the old city and with some of that old colonial flair.

Room Tip: second story rooms have better view of the city, and if possible, ask for one looking to the backyard

Hotel is well positioned in the historic district and, at first glance, is charming. I was not crazy about our first floor room right off the lobby as it was noisy late into the night. Also be careful with the air conditioning unit. In our room it blew directly on the bed and both my wife and I got bad colds as a result.

Cenrally located and within easy walking distance of Restuarants and shops, this one time Government Building is within the original confines of the old walled town.

The fact that it was once a government building [ residence] fires your imagination a little, and you tend to expect something a bit special.

Our room was at the rear of the hotel adjacent to a large pine tree, with mature garden views, including the swimming pool. An interesting feature was a roof lookout which could be accessed from the first floor hallway. The tall pine tree was a useful landmark if you got lost in the vicinity.

The decor was conservative and added class to the interior spaces. The walls were magnolia and the burgundy carpet, uniform throughout the building , extended a metre up the main passage way walls, on both sides, to a horizontal fashion strip.

The rooms had fully fitted burgundy carpeting extending to the skirting board; again the walls were painted in magnolia, so they were light and fresh. Cable TV and internet are standard: a heater or the quiet wall mounted modern airconditioner will keep you very comfortable. The en-suite was well equipped, clean, and with up - to - date units. One thing I was not sure about was the bathroom light switch being wall mounted within the confines of the shower stall, even though it was about 1.5 metres away from the shower sprinkler head ?? A good fridge was in the room. The bed and pillows also provided a very comfortable nights rest.

The dining room is on the ground floor, and slightly sunken in a split level design. A continental breakfast is supplied. Nothing extraordinary, but adequate. The staff were competent and helpful.

Room Tip: Don't forget the pool !

there are many hotels in Colonia, all good, most of them of standard luxury standard but mostly missing that little extra that makes a hotel a special experience. Pasada del Gobernador has that little extra. Do not expect the plastic and would standard items of many stars hotels. But enter the small hotel through a peaceful garden with a nice fountain, in the middle of the little old towm of Colonia, a gem, a piece of hispano-portuguese history. That is the setting. The rooms are not very luxury nor big, but quite all right and clean. Open the windows of the room and step into a little garden, listen to the birds and walk to the well decorated swimming pool, perhaps all alone, or with a few others, the hotel is small, it is yours or almost yours. No noice of traffic or of disco''s, friendly and helpful staff, a nice room full of old funiture where the internet facility is almost too modern. A romantic hotel, a gem.
You leave the hotel and in a few steps you are in the centre of the old town as well of the newer where all facilites may be found. Do not forget to rent a bike and cycle up to the Playa Feranda, at some 5 kilometers, splendid beach with few people but a nice little bar and resto.

Room Tip: rooms on the ground floor

My first trip to Colonia, and was greatly disappointed on the lodging, amenities, it's old and not kept up. Right next door, and incredible property called Posada El Capullo, a single went for ten dollars less than Posada del Gobernador. El Capullo was recently remodeled to the standards of a " boutique hotel " with all it's amenities. Good to know for next time. Many other great properties in the historic Colonia. Posada del Gobernador by far is the worst.
Safe journey !
