We booked this course on the back of a recommendation from friends who had done it before and enjoyed it.

We were picked up by a taxi at the hotel and brought to a meeting point near the market. Trang was looking after our group which had about 10 people in it. She took us round the market and bought the ingredients for the dishes we were making. Interesting to see the market and hear some tips from Trang. The market is very busy as people prepare for Tet ( Lunar New Year).

It was raining and we were given rain ponchos

Once we finished buying vegetables, meat and shrimps we boarded a covered boat for a trip on the river for 30 mins or so. After that we transferred into a much smaller boat ( in small groups). You have the option to travel by van if the little boats don’t appeal!

We arrived at the cookery school and were shown how to make rice milk using an old machine. We then cooked 4 dishes with Trang showing us first and then us having to do the same ourselves. We ate the dishes as we went along. All very tasty. We got a copy of the recipes at the end as well as a souvenir.

I hope to make some of the dishes at home once we are back.

While it would have been a bit nicer if the sun was shining the rain did not dampen our spirits - just because bring a couple of layers if cold/wet as the cooking is done under a roof but outdoor.

Thank you to Hien our guide for the day - she was excellent. From sourcing the ingredients at the local market to the boat trip and making 4 local dishes the experience was a lot of fun.
We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and would recommend this to anyone looking for a hands on and educational experience.
There is plenty to eat which you all prepare yourselves. Excellent value!

We had a great time at this cooking lesson and would say the food we cooked was in the top 2 best meals we had in Vietnam. This of course would not have been possible without Hon showing us first, telling us the perfect quantities and keeping an eye on us making sure we Follow the correct steps. A big shout out the the people out the back too who do all the major prep for us and bring things out as you need them making it flow like clockwork. Was a great experience and would recommend to all!

Hon was a charming and skilled tour guide/chef on this excellent half day tour. Struck the right balance between helping and letting us do it ourselves, for our group of family and friends across different age groups. It was a well tried and tested format and a good venue - A big shout out to Hon, who did a great job making us feel welcome and keeping everyone entertained. Recommended.

I've been staying in Hoi An with my wife and a friend from England. We befriended a waiter in the Can Restaurant on the riverfront who lives in Cam Than and accepted his invitation to eat lunch at his home. We bought food in the Central Market and hired a boat one-way to the mouth of the Thu Bon River for VND 300,000 [Cam Than is just north of the mouth of the estuary]. A taxi back [there are plenty of them] cost VND 120,000. An account of our agreeable lunch would be of little interest to other travellers. However, the inlets around Cam Than have a range of businesses offering cooking classes, and there are numerous restaurants along the creeks. Also, the riparian life of the people in Cam Than is well worth seeing. For us this was the best type of travel experience: going somewhere we never planned to see.
