We booked this course on the back of a recommendation from friends who had done it before and enjoyed it.
We were picked up by a taxi at the hotel and brought to a meeting point near the market. Trang was looking after our group which had about 10 people in it. She took us round the market and bought the ingredients for the dishes we were making. Interesting to see the market and hear some tips from Trang. The market is very busy as people prepare for Tet ( Lunar New Year).
It was raining and we were given rain ponchos
Once we finished buying vegetables, meat and shrimps we boarded a covered boat for a trip on the river for 30 mins or so. After that we transferred into a much smaller boat ( in small groups). You have the option to travel by van if the little boats don’t appeal!
We arrived at the cookery school and were shown how to make rice milk using an old machine. We then cooked 4 dishes with Trang showing us first and then us having to do the same ourselves. We ate the dishes as we went along. All very tasty. We got a copy of the recipes at the end as well as a souvenir.
I hope to make some of the dishes at home once we are back.
While it would have been a bit nicer if the sun was shining the rain did not dampen our spirits - just because bring a couple of layers if cold/wet as the cooking is done under a roof but outdoor.
