Highly recommend this place. My son loved this place so much that he asks me to rate this place a 10 stars. We did the Apline Route from Matsumoto, so we spent here a night after we done with all the routes. From the Tateyama station to this place was about 3 hrs. The lady that checked us in was super nice and friendly. We booked with a dinner meal/breakfast and loved it! The dinner was really good. We can't wear shoes in the place and those sandals were a little uncomfortable. We did used the public bath and it was great! I was a little shy about being naked with strangers but thank god no one was there so I got the whole room to myself. Loved the onsen. Very clean. Free coffee in the morning. Free shuttle from/to the station. Make sure to make a reservation ahead of time. Taxi costs about $8 from the station to the hotel. Extra charge for the second towel. The smell of the food so strong that it sticks in my clothes and I can smell it in my room. Overall, this place and town is a must visit. Highly recommend at least two nights. Also, you can rent bikes for less than 1000 yens.

If you want to try the ryokan experience this is a great one and a great value for money considering what other ryokan charge the night.
The service is amazing! I recommend booking the night with dinner and breakfast included. You get a feast and the opportunity to try a lot of traditional dishes from the area. The lady that served us dinner didn't spoke great english but tried so hard to explain what each of the dishes was. You should really experience dinner. I recommend wearing the yukata provided as the smell of the food sticks to your clothes.
While you eat dinner they make the futons which I found really comfortable.
I couldn't tried the public baths for...reasons but my boyfriend who at first was kind of reluctant to tried them finally did and said it was an amazing experience and really relaxing. I was so sad I couldn't tried them. If you can't like me or are shy there's a private shower.
At check out the lady at the front desk took our picture and even printed it and gave it to us for free. She came to the door to wave us good bye and then they took us to the station (also for free).
A truly amazing experience.

Room tip: I think all rooms are the same but make sure to book dinner included.

The decor was traditional and a little dingy. They allow smoking in all rooms, as they claim to treat all guests equal. However, non smoking guests, like ourselves, get the short end of the stick because it has a lingering smell of smoke. When we walked into the dinning room some food was already set on the table, which we were curious if it had just been sitting there since 5:30 when dinner is first open. We didn't arrive until about 7pm, so it was very peculiar and caused a loss of appetite. We felt a little relived once they brought out other foods, like sushi, but dinner and breakfast both didn't live up to the hype. Our expectations could have been high due to the other amazing ryokans we stayed at in Japan, but I would look elsewhere if we stayed in Takayama again.

Loved this ryokan in Takayama. Their free bus shuttle was very convenient, Japanese menu delicious, wonderful rooms and furo very clean and comfortable . I especially appreciated their wonderful staff who made me feel so welcome and enjoyed the Higashiyama Historic Walk nearby. Highly recommend!

I had pretty high expectations for this place and what we got fully met my expectations.
It is a bit far from the station, they have a free pick up though. On the other hand the place is just next to the historic Takayama walking route, which was great. Staff were very nice, polite and helpful. Dinner was delicious. The room was pretty spacious for Japan, beds were comfortable.
I read before that this ryokan is one of the best value for money in Japan and I definitely believe it.
I would definitely recommend for people to get off their route and visit Takayama staying in this place.
