This park is definitely a MUST SEE while in Hakodate. It's just 10 minutes by bus form the train station. Go u the tower and you have a beautiful view over the city!

This is an amazing old Shogun palace that has been rebuilt. They still have more buildings to restore but you can get a ski view from the tower and you can imagine what it was like. The cherry blossoms which number over 1200 would have been nice to see in bloom. Being so far north they don't bloom until the first of May. Nice place to check out.

I would recommend both the tower and the park itself for both the views and the information. Lovely gardens. Lots of explanations in English. Cherry blossoms in May will be spectacular—there are one 1600 trees.

The scene in winter is just beautiful with everything in the park covered under the puffy snow. We had a walk following the guided path and had a feeling that time had also been frozen.
