We arrived on Showa Day April 29,a national holiday that celebrates birthday of Showa Emperor, Hirohito, (Dec 25, 1926-Jan 7, 1989). We decided to skip Goryokaku Tower, line too long. Instead, our tour guide took us to Goryokaku Park for the highlight of the cherry blossom festival and picnickers. The trees are numbered for tracking purposes. Cherry Blossom Festival commemorates the 1912 gift of 3,000 cherry trees from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo to the city of Washington DC and honors the lating friendship of our two countries. Today, cherry blossom festival “Hanami” welcomes springs with food, drink, songs, companionship and the beauty of sakura “cherry blossoms.” While at park, toured Magistrate's Office/Hakodate Bugyosho

Last weekend of cherry blossoms of the 1600 trees made view magical. Wish we’d taken time for boat paddle in the moat. Fun Giant carp in Tower visitor center. Fun place.
