Stayed here because it is close to the large meeting center in Nara Park, and price was very reasonable. Get breakfast included in the price, other wise it is over $20 - choice of American Style or two Japanese styles. Breakfast is formal, no buffet. Had smallish single room that had a very comfortable bed, sliding glass door so could have fresh air all night long. View was of garden - behind the hotel there are no roads so very quiet at night. Bathroom surprisingly was of typical Japanese prefabricated plastic box - was fine though. Staff were overall very helpful, tough a few had English challenges. Very happy with overall experience.
If coming from Kansai airport on the limousine bus, the first stop of the bus is right at the hotel entrance - extremely convenient.
Be aware, colleagues who stayed in the old traditional part of the hotel found the rooms very noisy (no sound-proofing) and the beds very hard. They moved after one night.
Can easily walk to the park. The beautiful convention in the park is just 15 minutes walk.

Room Tip: For quiet choose new building

I stayed with my family. We enjoyed this very old fashioned hotel.( but wifi is available!!)
The hotel is not so far from Kintetau Nara station. You can go to hotel both by taxi ir in foot.
The hotel has a souvenir shop which offer Japanese Sake and cookies only available in the hotel .

We stayed here for originally 3 nights but extended our stay as we loved it so much. The hotel is very sympathetic to it's orginal form and design, it feels like stepping back 100 years! The exterior of the building is magnificent and all the rooms have a lovely olden feel, but with all the mod cons. Breakfast is a treat, ordering from a menu and having it freshly cooked. The location is perfect, overlooking the Pagoda and a 5 minute walk to the centre of town. The whole stay was very relaxing and the hospitality was exceptional, even by Japanese high standards. Would definitely return!

The hotel is coasting on its past and personages of note. Reception was poor. Service was abysmal and disdainful. Amenities were non-existent. Room was clean and adequate and that was all that can be said. Of all the hotels and ryokans we have stayed in Japan over the years this was the most dismal. If visitors to Japan stayed exclusively at this hotel they would come away with an ill-flavored experience that is nothing like the country itself. To be avoided.

Nara turned out to be one of our favourite spots of our time in Japan. Staff were really helpful and willing to help. Location was spectacular and had a really cosy vibe about the hotel. All the facilities were great for the cost!
