We stayed at this hotel for one night during a two-week tour of Japan. The building is charming and historic - we were even presented with a small booklet about the history of the place (in Japanese). It is located on top of a hill, so while we managed to walk from the train station with two weeks worth of luggage, I certainly don't recommend doing so.
We had a room on the second floor in the main building. While the building's age is apparent, everything appeared well maintained and the room was cosy. It also felt very spacious thanks to the high ceilings.
The hotel has two restaurants and a bar/tea lounge. We enjoyed our dinner at the Japanese restaurant Hanagiku, which has a nice view of the city.
While you can probably cover most of what Nara has to offer on a day trip from Kyoto, this hotel is great option if you choose to stay a little longer.More
