The rooms are spacious for Japanese standards but not very clean. There was mold in the bathroom en the lighting in the room is inadequate. There was a light at the bed and at the entrance so in the evenings I could hardly see in this room. This neighbourhood is filled with hotels so I suggest you look further..
Very bad hotel , mold in the bathroom and dirty room
This hotel needs absolutely to be remodeled , it is a shame to stay on the market ;
staff not friendly , after the eartquake the castle has been disroyed so there is no reason at all to go to Kumamoto
We stayed at the Ark Hotel Kumamotojo Mae for one nights and it was a really good price-value. The hotel is rather old and you can see that on the rooms – they are not really dirty but old and e.g. one of the chairs should have been replaced quite a while ago. However, we did not expect anything newer in the first place and for the price and one night it was alright. Especially as the price includes breakfast for two (a buffet with a medium range of choice for Japanese and Western breakfast – also suitable for vegetarians). In addition the view is really nice – just "opposite" of the Kumamoto Castle. The upstairs restaurant is also nice for a dinner and with side dishes you can also get there a decent vegetarian dinner.

Hotel near the centre. It is a dated and breakfast is average. Lots of Chinese check in ...so a real focus on tourists. Better hotels are around here. Staff is friendly. Average tourist hotel. You can choose : clean your room or breakfast, how un japanese is that?
the location of hotel is very good for sight seeing and shopping , eating ..
10 mins to kumamoto old castle , I am very enjoyed the breakfast in morning both
western and japanese food ..downside of hotel are service of front desk ( night shift)
i am expected that there are WIFI around room, and enquiry more twice to front desk
lady .finally, still can not solve or any help from them. they told that nothing WIFI connection ..Hotel decoration are a bit old furniture in bed room…
A decent hotel, which is near the Kumamoto Castle, can be view from the hotel, and 5 minutes walk to the city centre. As usual, like most Japanese standard hotels, rooms are small and bathroom very tiny but it's comfortable and clean. There are vending machines on every floor too.
