This is a statue of a local boxing champion. He's a short man--I've met him in person--but a local legend because he was the WBA Light Flyweight champion in 1976-1981 and won many fights by knock out. Now he's more known for commercials, but he's always been known for that hair. If you're not Japanese, if you're not Okinawan, even if you are, you may not care about this. It kills 5 minutes to take a photo with the statue while you're waiting for a ferry and you'll see many Japanese doing this. (Yes, I had to wait my turn to take a photo.)
