“A beautiful wind swept park in the middle of Morioka”

Morioka Castle Ruins
Reviewed 4 April 2016

This beautiful windswept park leads down to a small stream, that is lit by gas lamps, that light the area with a soft golden light. A beautiful restful spot, right in the middle of Morioka

Very peaceful and lovely location. Catch the public bus and it's about a 15 minute ride. Plenty of trees turning colors and there is also a picturesque stream with koi.

The ruins consist of massive stone foundations, one above another, leading to a fine view of the city; an exhilarating little climb. I was there at the end of October as the leaves were changing--bright yellow ginko, a maples just changing with colors from green to yellow to scarlet, the more subtle hues of the cherry.

We went to Morioka on 19 Oct , took the denden bus (counterclock) to Morioka Castle and found that the light was not perfect for picture taking . So we went back to the station took another bus to Takamatsu Pond which was an easily short walking from the bus stop . Coming back to Morioka Castle at around 3pm ,it's the right time. There was not much of the ruined castle to see but the magnificent autumn colors with soft touch of light impressed us. And even though there was no english explanations at the ruined site we didn't find it a problems. We 're there until it's getting dark.
