If half a star was an option, that is what it would get.

    Where do I start?

    1. We booked this safari camp in advance and emailed them regarding being picked up from the airstrip, giving them the exact arrival date/time. As a note, there is absolutely no way you can get to your lodge/camp without this arrangement, as the place is barren and has no taxis etc (it’s a tarmac strip with a shed). When we arrived at the airstrip, there was no one waiting for us and we had to watch while the other passengers from our plane got into the respective vehicles and drove away. We had no option but to kindly ask one of the locals to use their mobile to make contact with the camp as even they were getting concerned that we hadn’t been picked up, bearing in mind we are in the middle of a National Park, with no protective barriers and in the scorching heat. 2 hours later, our transport arrived with no apology given. When we had gotten to the camp, we were met by the manager, Peter, who admitted fault from his end saying that it was down to no internet in the camp. There was no attempt to compensate us for the delay in arriving.
    2. There was no WiFi during the entire duration of our stay, despite it being promised daily.
    3. Once we had settled, we went to the reception to arrange a game drive for the following morning. We were told that this would cost us $240 between 2 of us for only an hours drive! Extortionate! One of the staff members, Becky, offered us an alternative and said we could hire one of the locals vehicle to self drive within the park. We had little option due to not being about to justify spending such a large amount on an hours game drive, so we took the offer on the pretence that it be a 4x4 (the roads were horrendous, as we had seen driving from the airstrip). We’d reluctantly agreed to hire the car for three game drives totally $360 (more than my car is worth back home!) as we had come here to see some animals! The morning came and we’d gotten up at the crack of dawn (as game drives normally are) and went to the car. Becky showed us to what can only be describe as a city vehicle, a Toyota. Not at all suitable for the roads in the park. We accepted despite feeling lied to (Becky had assured us it would be a 4x4, and this definitely wasn’t!). Into the park and it was only 10 minutes before one of the electric windows malfunctioned and the glass came out of the frame, leaving the window permanently down (worse thing to happen in a game drive with lions, cheetahs etc). We quickly did a U-turn and went back to the camp, not before pleading with park staff on the gate to let us back in (the park pass we had bought at the airstrip only lasted two entries over a 24 hour period. One we used arriving at the airstrip, and the second being used on entry with this city car!) the staff were kind and agreed to let us back in. Once back at the camp, we spoke to Becky and told her we weren’t happy that she had facilitated in getting us this car that was in no way suitable for the road conditions and that had broken in the park, leaving us worried for our safety (it was dawn when the car broke, and for those who don’t know, predators will hunt at these times due to it being cool). When we had explained to Becky what had happened, she waved us off nonchalantly, as if to get rid of us. The whole time this was eating into our 24 hour period which cost us a total of $120! Peter, the manager came to speak with us (again) and in no uncertain words, said that we should be grateful that we weren’t being charged for the window being damaged. We were in disbelief at this, due to the damage not being our fault in the first place (the window was electric, and pushing of the button to unwind it caused it to come out of the frame). The amount we paid was eventually refunded after numerous attempts to the manager to ask where our money was.
    4. The camp advertises as 5 star, but in no way is this reflected in the facilities. The camp is outdated and old, it’s not worth the stars given and certainty not the money they charge.
Overall, our experience was less than satisfied. Our complaints weren’t taken seriously and when talking to certain staff members, they would take to us in English and then turn to each other and talk in another language whilst looking at us. This made us feel uncomfortable because it was obvious they were talking about us.

What should have been a well deserved break to do something neither of us had experienced turned into one of the worst holidays I’ve ever encountered. We felt completely let down but what is meant to be a reputable lodge. It was nothing more than a money making scam on every holiday maker coming through! I cannot advise you any more than the above NOT to waste a dollar on this place. I’d rather set fire to my money than spend another night at that place. What a complete disappointment.

We visited as a family and the staff were friendly, helpful and caring. We had two rooms, my room was 2 beds, the droppings on the floor made me feel the room wasn’t as clean as it could be. The food was in containers but not even warm which concerned me with a lot of flies about in tables, glasses and cutlery the site appeared in need of a refurbishment, the pool was good but the toilets full of droppings and again not as clean as they could be. We left after one night. It’s a shame really as I feel this lodge as such potential.

I had always wanted an Amboseli Safari and def what complements a great safari is a nice lodge/ camp! Kilima Safari camp was ideal!
Rooms were clean, well provisioned and even had 2 beds!
Dining- they did have a variety & great food! Very attentive staff- Jonathan & Kazungu ( bar) were particularly helpful & kind!
I wanted to have breakfast at the fire place facing Mt Kilimanjaro and they arranged this for me at no extra cost.
A huge and well maintained pool & poolside!
Very convenient location as it's close to the park!
Def a place I'd stay again! Kudos

Very spacious tent/wooden lodges with comfortable beds and huge bathrooms. Lots of space between the tents so no noise issues and very, very dark at night. The main building/dining room is vast and airy, very relaxing. It is worth climbing the observation tower in the morning for clear views of Kilimanjaro. The swimming pool is huge, with lots of loungers in the shade for sleeping off early morning safari drives. The road to the hotel and park gate is very bumpy and dusty but the journey is worth it. We even saw a group of three male elephants before arriving at the camp.
