Wonderful trip

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 19 Jun 2023
Surrounding by nature, suitable for those who has been visiting too many commercial kind of hotel! The hygiene is good, room is nice! Very vintage! Love their bathroom the most! Very chilling here especially during the day time with sun light!

We booked Kunang Kunang Heritage Villas for the experience of staying in an old traditional Malaysian home and we loved it. The villas have loads of character and everything in the villas and around them has been carefully selected to be old and in keeping with the period which all adds to the experience. The large old Malaysian house used as the reception area is particularly authentic and wonderful.

The villas are quite out of the way but don't worry it is ridiculously quick and easy to get a taxi with the grab app and so cheap. To Pantai Cenang beach or the airport about £1.80. Panorama cable car about £3.60 and Tanjung Rhu beach (also where mangrove tours are) £5.30.

All of the staff were friendly and made us feel at home in this chilled out place. We would certainly recommend spending a few nights at Kunang Kunang located out in the villages next to a large lake rather than in a modern hotel in the busy Cenang beach area. If you are travelling around experiencing different places and hotels this is definitely one to add to your itinerary. Enjoy it we certainly did!

Room tip: Make sure you download the grab app and then you don't need to worry about the location you can get anywhere quickly and cheaply

The warmest welcome, excellent facilities (a floating swimming pool?!) and stunning, perfectly refurbished historic villas on stilts all set amongst beautiful, lushly planted gardens. So sad to leave this wonderful place.

We had initially booked 5 days at another hotel (Royale Chenang) but were not happy there and moved to this place our last couple of days at Langkawi. It is just a magical place, with beautiful and very old Malaysian wooden villas. Our kids of 6 & 8 loved the floating pool, the breakfast (us grown ups as well), and we all loved the friendly staff and the absolutely lovely buildings & surroundings. It is close to the airport, but it does not disturb as it doesn’t land that many planes per day. You do need a car to live here ( or order in food through Grab when the restaurant is closed) but it is totally worth it. My warmest recommendations if you like genuine & beautiful local culture combined with calmness.

This is a lovely setting of genuine heritage villas, but let's address the obvious issue - the noise.
Yes, you can hear the planes, both jet and prop, but they don't come in and out too often (not after 11pm or before 7am by recollection).
We stayed in Temonyong (#13), and that row of 4 villas does have a small road running behind it, and there were a couple of noisy motorbikes late at night.
You can also hear prayers from a nearby mosque early in the morning.
And, if you have noisy neighbours (it's 'family friendly'), there's not a lot to stop that noise travelling either.
Location-wise, we had a number of cancelled Grabs as it is positioned along narrow roads, so book with time to spare!
The place itself is lovely though!

Room tip: It's between 10 and 15 mins car ride to the airport.

From the moment we checked in we were really looked after. The place was clean and the staff really attentive. It is set in a beautiful natural environment so expect wildlife noise. It is fairly close to a couple of mosques and the airport but I can honestly say the noise from both did not bother us (I am a very light sleeper).
The pool area was lovely and the food was some of the best we had on the island.
Although it is slightly out of the resort it is easy to get about using the grab app or scooter.
Kunang kunang is the best place we stayed in Malaysia. Highly recommended.
