We stayed at Berjaya Langkawi soon after Christmas. We stayed in a Chalet on water which was lovely with beautiful views of the ocean and mountains. The plusses of this resort are: its not too far from the airport - about a half hour's drive, the hotel has a private beach which is secluded and good for swimming and lazing around, nice pool with a shady pool bar. The hotel itself is rather dated - especially the reception area can do with a major face lift. The rooms are nice but the bathroom could do with a bit of TLC, Food was good overall - I recommend the beach restaurant which severed a nice breakfast. The Thai restaurant was a disappointment in terms of food - got very late and service was pretty slow, the food lacked authenticity. But the location on a pier is lovely at night - to watch the fish swimming from your table. This resort is a good place to chill out and take it easy .Could definitely do with a bit of upgrading though.

Room Tip: Definitely get the chalets on the water.

When we arrived, they could not find our bookings. Unfortunately we went on a Friday and my husband and brother in law had to go for prayers. We did not get the rooms in time. They do not inform you that the chalets are only accessible by their shuttle. So to go to your room you have to queue up to get on the shuttle and to get back down you have to call and wait. The wait is not too long, but annoying. T
The breakfast was good, the staff not to helpful, it was as if they were doing you a favor to let you stay there.
The bathrooms were nice, but the bed--- it creaked with every breath you took, the mattress was lumpy and the pillows smelt bad. Time for an update. The room itself was good. Little chalets nestled amongst the trees.
Wifi was good in the main lobby and restaurant,not really there in the room

We had booked three rooms at the Berjaya resort from the 28th December to 3rd of January. The resort is enormous and at that time of the year was busting in every direction. The food and beverage service was tested and the staff seemed under prepared and poorly trained. We ate at the buffet, the Japanese, the Thai and the beach restaurant and on all occasions we witnessed chaos and slow (but good) food. For the first few days we had rainforest rooms which were close to the reception but the continuous revving of the wretched room shuttle vans and motorbikes outside our window was in stark contrast to what you would want in a peaceful resort. Eventually after much complaining and some stonewalling by the staff we were moved to a quieter spot for the last 2 nights. A tip is to contact the resort and request specific rooms prior to your stay.
The New Years event was wonderful. The resort is in walking distance of the Skyway. The hotel has an excellent tours desk and there is a terrific free evening nature tour.
Beach is nice and clean and there are abundant water sports to choose from.
In the end we loved it but we do wish our issue with the rooms had been taken seriously from my first comment unfortunately our first three days were disappointing.

-Rainforest chalet was disappointing as it was very outdated, small and seemed uncleaned
-Very efficient, kind and helpful staff
-Good breakfast variety, except for the muffin section which could be improved by adding a greater variety.
-Pool was beautiful, had a great experience when the monkeys came out at around 5-5:30pm
-Put the card for our linen to be changed (checked to see if it was changed by making a small erasable mark on the sheets) and found it was not changed on the first 2 days of staying there. The 'change of linen' card was also put away in the drawers, probably in the hopes that we wouldn't ask for our linen to be changed again. However, our linen was finally changed on the third day. :)
-Very close to cable cars, however not many eating options available other than the resort restaurants
-Speaking of the restaurants, the Beach Restaurant had a good choice of food. We ordered some Indian dishes. The chicken tikka was so dry that we had to return it and replace it for another dish and the food came quite late. The Chinese restaurant also had a good choice of food, however the food came over an hour late which was disappointing. The Thai restaurant, however, was amazing; great service, food didn't come late, great location.

This hotel is a little dated but otherwise decent. My main gripe is the shuttle system - my unit was really far from the main lobby so you need to take a shuttle, and it takes ages to get a shuttle from your room to the lobby (could be up to 15 mins). So big minus there

The other minus was I was there over NYE and they made it compulsory to go for the gala dinner, which is about AUD 250 or there abouts per head. Whilst it was a fun event, it is certainly not worth anywhere near 250 AUD per head (maybe half at best).

I must say the busy season can be quite challenging in such a large geography especially around morning and evening hours so anything we can do to better approach expectations will be benefit.
